CLS 55 AMG - one of the last off the AMG line
location of horn CLK 55 AMG

I just noticed my alarm doesnt sound, neither does my horn if I push on it (with the engine running). Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to check the horn ? I heard that there is no fuse for the horn - so I guess its hard wired, and I want to check the unit. Any thoughts ? or suggestions ?

My horn is in front of the car on the right side near the rad support and just behing the headlight. Give it a shot with a 12 volt source see if it works!

I would think that the horn would be located in the engine bay by the radiator. I'm just guessing tho!!!

Theres two horns, one near the passenger side headlight and one behind the bumper near the radiator and yes the horn has a fuse. Look up "fanfare" on the fuse sheet

Driving (fanfare) horns: location, part numbers

First, thanks to prior posters who gave me the basic info. Here's what I found, about the regular driving horns (apparently called the "fanfare" horns in the fusebox, etc.) as opposed to the alarm horn)--at least on my car, a 2005 year model CLK55, manufactured Sept 2004, headlamp washers, bi-Xenon headlamps, both horns by Fiamm, made in Italy:

The low tone one is located directly behind right-hand (viewed from driver's seat) headlamp assembly: black plastic and silver metal, stamped with Mercedes star and PN 005 542 1220.

The high tone one is directly behind grille, slight to the left (viewed from driver's seat) of the star, and in front of radiator: all black plastic, PN 005 542 1320.

My low horn wouldn't sound, so put a 12-v source directly to both horns: high horn sounded, low one dead. Based on prior experience with horn failures, it is probably repairable by opening up and simply cleaning the electrical contact points, but it is RTVd together so not worth the time, so buying a new one, $87.
