Lowering a CLK 55

I just got ahold of a very clean 12K mile 2001 CLK 55 ///AMG. I thought I would get some advice before I start fidling around with it.

I have heard that you can remove a pair of spacers in the front spring perches to lower the car as much as 3/4" while using the factory springs. Is this correct?

Also, I am considering a Renntech ECU upgrade. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it a module that you insert in the ECU like a DINAN chip, or do you need to send the ECU in to Renntech to have it re-programmed?

Thanks for your input!

Yes you can lower a MB by changing the pads. The pads come in three sizes. The only way to tell what size you have is to remove it.
When I opted for the Kleemann Speed Sensitive suspension the pads needed to be changed to align the car.
I doubt if you will get ¾ of an inch. The best way is to buy new springs designed to lower your MB.
Best of luck to ya,
Tim

Actually, the shims come in five sizes. You can tell the shim size by looking at it (without removing it) or by looking in the dealer's EPC (if you put the VIN in, you can can tell which one was installed at the factory). Also with the EPC, you can calculate the "points" for your car, by adding the options and their points "value" and crossreferencing the chart to see what spring shim should be used.

My CLK55 came with #2 shims, so there was basically no way to lower it with the shims.

Think the best way is to go shim/pad #1 all around. As far as suspension you can get either the Kleemann setup or H&R + Bilstein.
