Is my dealer ripping me off?

MB just completed the diagnostic on my '02 clk55 b/c the top won't go up. They are saying the trunk locking latch needs to be replaced. Specifically, the one on the trunk side? They priced it at $1,000.00, citing the diagnostic fee, the draining of the hydrolics, replacing the latch, etc. Is this reasonable? Can I do this myself? How hard is it to get this part and get to it? Very handy with my DIY projects on my jeep and land cruiser, but obv this car is a different beast. Looking for the opinions of those in the know! Thanks!

It depends on what exact part they are replacing. The parts are fairly expensive for any of the hydraulics and they are generally a pain to get to and then you have to run the lines to the pump which is a pain to get to also. I do not think that this is inappropriate for the work. If it was a mircro switch then it would be fairly steep. But it sounds like hydraulics.

C63 AMG
A third party Shop may be able to get a refurbished part for cheaper and save on the repair. Rather than buying new from Mercedes.
