Angry clk55 tires worn down at only 8,000 miles

My clk 55 michelins are almost worn out, maybe 2000 miles left after only 8,000 miles! I have been driving to work and back in rushhour traffic most of the time (only 8000 miles in a 11 months).Surely this is excessive wear - do we have to replace tires every 10,000 miles in this car ??? This is an expense I didnt expect - maybe would have reconsidered purchase. I really dont drive aggressively too often - too much traffic to do so in Dallas. Tires are now losing traction much more, esp. in wet weather.
Any comment, suggestions on having Mercedes replace tires with something that lasts instead of this junk they supply with the car?

I have Michelin Pilots and after 6,500 miles they hardly show any wear.

What type of Michelins do you have?

If you experience uneven tire-wear you are entitled to a free alignment before 12,000 miles, provided you have not altered factory suspension.

I wore my PZero Rosso's out that quick too on my E55 but I know exactly why- flat out hard accelerating from almost every stop and flooring it often at higher speeds. The torque on the E55 just wears tires out so easily. Also I used the touch shifter often to assist in slowing down and this puts a lot of pressure on the rear tires and increases wear. Are all your tires worn or just the rears?? My problem was only with the rears.

how do you like the S03

I hear good things about them but not too many people I hear about have much mileage on them. Would like to hear your input on the Bridgstones... I have P Zeros now and I can tell they will be shot in 10k. I dont drive hard, they are just very soft tires. Very sticky but they wear fast. Im fairly sure Im gonna replace them with the SO3's.

I have new S03's on my 430 right now the tires handle well are quiet on the positive side, on the negative side they tend to flat spot when my car is left idle for a day or two without driving and they have a bit harder ride than the Pilots. I spoke to one of the tech guys at the Tirerack and he reported that a few people have been reporting the flat spotting problem. The tech said that after a few hundred miles of driving should improve the problem (which it did to an extent) but I still have the flat spotting every morning for a few miles until they smooth out. My Pilots would also flat spot a bit but would go away after about an 1/8 of a mile. I will be going back to Pilots and the folks at the Tirerack have been great. I know from this board that a few others love their S03's but this has been my experience. My car is a 100% stock 01' CLK 430 and it's my third.

Hey vinmanc32 here is a post that I made in January right after I got my S03's....

Finally got my S-03's and dumped my Rosso's

Last Tuesday I finally got myself some new tires and put on the Bridgestone Pole Position S-03's and replaced my Pirelli PZero Rosso's.
After one week of driving and one day in the wet I can say there is a difference. I have an E55 and the car just seems to grab harder in the turns and seems more stable at high speeds. Where I drive there are a lot of seams and cracks in the freeway from the Northridge Quake in 1994 and the Rosso's seemed to catch an edge once in a while. It kind of felt like I was skiing on some dull skiis and my edges got pulled the wrong way.
Going into and through high speed turns seem much easier- I feel like I am driving on rails and my speeds are faster through the same turns that I wasnt as confident with the Rosso's.
The wet was an even more dramatic difference, the S-03's are an incredible wet tire and I felt myself going a little too fast while the rest of the "scared when it rains" Californians were driving their usual 20 mph slower rain speeds.
Noisewise the Rosso's are just slightly more quiet and barely more comfortable. These are two items that I can live with and the differences are minute in nature. Dont get me wrong, the Rosso's are a great Max Performance Tire but they just don't live up to the S-03's. I have not driven on the Pilots or the AVS's so maybe they may come up to the caliber of the S-03's but I am very pleased with these new shoes.

My tires last 8000 to 11,000 miles as well, but it's because my car's lowered and I've got a lot of negative camber.

I love my S-03s as well; great tires. Awesome in the rain, awesome in corners. They blow the P-Zeros away.
