CLK55 (W208) brakes, rotor machining, ect

this car has 30K, without any grooving in the rotors. i have been told by a few mechs that if i were to replace the pads and turn the rotors, the rotors would be ruined shortly. i was told that the alloy is "soft" and subject to warping, ect..i also heard that "if i machine these, there would be nothing left".

what is the maximum tolerance? no one has measured this.

are these statements correct???

thanks

MB rotors are not to be turned down like other cars. I've been told that MB service centers don't even have a disk lathe in their shops. My E55 went through pads and rotors at 30,000.

MB rotors can be turned, but most shops do not have lathes that meet the required tolerances. In most cases, the rotors are cheap enough that it's not even worth it to turn them. The W210 E55 rotors are quite a bit more expensive though... but there's not muc h material on the rotor before the minimum thickness is approached, so it's difficult to turn it properly.

Search in this forum, it has been discussed in depth.
