When I brake hard, it sort of makes a click just before it engages. I don't think it's the ABS. It doesn't do it when I brake lightly.

I was wondering if it's the auto-assist brake function? Or should I pull the wheels off and inspect the calipers?

It could be a caliper bushing or pad rattle shim,

just a hunch, Its best to inspect brake problems early. Its ur life
