CLK convertible top rattle

I have a problem with a loud rattle every time I go over any rough spot or driveway approach. It is coming from the "blocks" on top of the windshield frame, where you latch the convertible top down. It happens whether the top is up or down. When the top is open, the "blocks" seem to be loose in the windshield frame. Are they supposed to be loose? Is there a way to tighten or adjust them. I also get alot of whistling and wind noise from the top edge of the windshield, when the top is up, that may be related. Any suggestions? The dealer said the top latch-down "blocks" were supposed to be loose and that the wind noise was normal, yet all the reviews say that, with the top up, the interior was as quiet as a coupe. Those of you with convertibles should be able to enlighten this "cabriolet-newby"

The top on my cab is tight and quiet, nothing loose. Go to a different dealer.

I had a similar problem until I sprayed Teflon lubricant on all the contact points and rubber gaskets. It took care of the issue immediately.

You were right. My good friend Chris over at V.I.P. Interiors in Scottsdale (here in Arizona) is an expert at high end convertibles. He said the rattle is NOT normal, but he could tighten and adjust the top, so that it would be nice and quiet. By the way, if anyone needs a new top, he has a complete CLK convertible frame and can do a complete replacement for around $2,000 to factory perfect. He is well known to all the high end dealers and retoration shops. His work is immpecable.

I have had convertibles in the past, and you guys are right about lubricating the contact points. The connection is just too loose. I took it to a car wash. I know what you are thinking, and you are right. Everything was fine, until the high pressure rinse. The word STUPID came to mind, but only until I noticed my overhead interior lights do not work. Now the word IDIOT comes to mind. Yes you can reply, and I will not be offended, hurt maybe, but not offended. I need the 40 lashes, so I will not do it again.
