I have never heard of any fault codes popping up on the cluster.
The pixels will go bad on temperature and clock displays.
I have a good link for pixel repair plus resources. Is the code displayed in the center display?

I have a link for the repair that is one of the best I have ever found.

The parts link was working in Feb. 2013, I purchased one for 15 usd (china) and it took about a month. You are in the land down under and might find an electronics guru firm that has the kit as well. Local suppliers in the USA are around 50 usd but it might be a different material or quality.
I will be installing my kit this fall, following the thread above. there are some upgraded ideas if you follow along.
