CLK 2003 ALTERNATOR
After fixing a little oil drop on the headers from the valve gaskets, I noticed another weird smell aside from the oil drop smell.. Gave the engine a quick look with a flashlight and it all seemed okay. Connected my battery tester and noticed the battery was not charging and the smell continued.
I stopped the engine did some research and tried dynomode on my car but it did not worked caused my car is an early 2003 W209 model. Now what questions me is, If the alternator is faulty wouldn't it appear on my car's dash? Could it be the alternator itself or just the regulator? its driving me crazy
No more oil is leaking, no coolant leak, it has a particular smell, burnt electronics kind of smell. The car has 74.890 mi on the odometer.
Any help/advice/suggestion is appreciated.

When my alt died it locked up gradually and overheated and smelled like that with slot of smoke.
A rebuilt alt from mb was $500. New was 1100 .
You can get it rebuilt at a good alt shop.
Removing the alt was a pain. I pulled fan shroud a came out from the top.
