Lightbulb Comment on tires

Hi all, I just want to know what tires are you guys using on your Clks? Currently, I am using a set of Continental SportContact 2 on my 03 CLK55 with 19" HRE 449R wheels, 235/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear (pictures are coming soon), and these rubbers really stick!! I used to have Bridgestone SO-3 on my previous CLK, yeah...SO-3 is great, it sticks and gives me good grip in the rain. However, since I changed my wheels on my new CLK, I also decided to try a set of new tires, and I chose the Contact 2. But I can tell you all, this thing really melts on the ground and I can actually touch its soft surface after a 45 mins highway ride. Even in the poor condition, it has a better grip than the SO-3 I had before. One more thing, it's much more quiet than the SO-3. Well, here comes the opportunity cost, the Contact 2 are expensive tires like the SO-3 and Rosso <----- it spins in rain , around 600CDN per each, it gives me outstanding handling but at the same time, it dies quite fast...half a year maybe, if you go like crazy everyday on the highway.
Errrr~~ don't mix that up with the stupid SportContact!!

Dam, Have I been through many - I agree with your comments regarding the S03/S02 - I have been through many tires on my CLK55 ///AMG - Four set thus far - I started off with Dunlops 7000 then, S02 followed by S03, and now Kumos - Escata - The Kumos are pretty dam good for the price, almost half the price of the S03 -Wet/Dry performance is impressive - the Dunlops were crap -I burned them in 4K miles - I would really recommend the Kumos for the dollar, with all AMG's the rubber is the frist to go.
Next I will try the P zero's, friends of mine tell me they are worth the $ - we will see....

Well, There's my two cents, keep the change...

The new Pilot Sport 2's are the latest from Michelin. They are standard equipment on the new Carrera GT.

i agree that the Kuhmo Ecstas are the best buy for the buck. I have the P7000's on right now, and the performance is mediocre. They are also pretty damn loud as well. I don't think i will use them again once they wear down.

I had 19" Yokahama aVS sports and Toyo's recently. The Toyo's are awesome. Both a great choice in my opinion though.

Winter performance with Kumho

I'm thinking about getting a set of Kumhos for my 02 CLK55, but I'll be spending the next month or so in Knoxville, TN where temperatures are in 30's to 50's with light snow sometimes. Are these tires suitable for that kind of weather? I live in Tampa, FL so I don't have much experience with winter driving.

Thanks.
