CLK55 Engine Rocker Cover - Powder Coating

Hi all

I am thinking of powder coating my engine cover. A nice candy purple and silver.

Anyone done this before? I am unsure if this is suitable for this sort of engine cover.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

The information you provided is really broad. What year car is it? As long as its a high temp coating you should not have any issues with it. I assume your car is some type of show car?

Hi beefstallionAMG

Many thanks for the response.

The car I have is a CLK55 AMG 2003 model. It is not show car but I simply wanted to dress up the engine. The engine cover looks particularly tired and I thought perhaps I could powder coat the engine cover.

However, I have heard that some engines have been damaged by powder coating, hence, the question if this work would be suitable for this particular engine cover.

I would be grateful for any suggestions and advice.

Many thanks again

Go ahead and powder coat there should be no issues. That being said....purple? Hmmm.

I would not even think about powder coating unless you can strip the underside and also in the breathers. If you get a small amount of sand inside your engine your cylinder walls are going to get chewed up. I saw it happen.

Nobody powdercoats the underside. It's masked off along with any breathers etc.

Some heat resistant exhaust paint works well. I did my M113 covers 2 years ago in satin black and they still look perfect
