After watching the engine masters episode where they dynoed fans I have been thinking about getting rid of mine. The best one cost 18hp, which was a factory clutch type.
Glad to see you guys are way ahead of me
yeah I will be interested, how much does it weigh less than oem?
i think the pillar was originally for Volvo S60, the angle of the pillar matched decently well but obviously had to be trimmed to fit.
i got spal fan, it's one of their performance units. I wanted to go with dual but this was biggest I can fit in there. I might get rid of dual aux and put similar spal upfront to allow more air to get in. I'm also thinking of getting oil cooler from an e55 to help with engine oil temps. With that said I really don't have any issues with temp right now but I'm told it's a good thing to invest in! Also might get bigger trans pan with fins to help there as well. Let me know if you guys have any experience with these. Thx
Hey guys! Looking at this 55 setup made me wonder if a lot of these mods can be done for a clk 430. I want to set it up for track as well here in pr and id love to know the ideal and easy setups for getting started.
Also wanted to know if clk 55 amg sway bar can fit onto my 430, i heard that the sway bar is better than stock 430 but my real question is is thew 55 sway bar better than the H&R sway bar kit for my clk430.
I immediately will post for everyone here if by any chance they have the Evosport pulley for sale? I would love to have one for now and when the kleemann s/c eventually arrives.
PS- also looking for 55 airbox from either clk 55 or e55 (same for both 2000-2002)

Agree with the fan mod. I am installing oil pressure gauge instead of temp. Have you or anyone else found an oil gallery port to tap into. I recently installed a heat exchanger and the temps are ok but I lost some flow. Florida summer is coming. Our Fronts are made different must be Cab/Coupe hmmm.

I have a similer setup with the spal fan. I connected a water temp sensor to the coolant line that controls the fan.
however, I used part of the shroud off of the 320 with an aluminium shroud so that it sucks air through more of the radiator. I have been very happy. Even on long traffic drivers in LA (stop and go) 110/120 out side with AC on and no issues.

Reflecting, I used Auto Meter Gauges in my old race days.
You are using oil temp and pressure along with voltage. A good combination I would have substituted the volts for water temp though.
Recently had my engine torn down for conditioning did not look for a port for the oil pressure tap though.
Thanks for sharing the fan upgrade, I have two small HO units yet to install on my SC Heat Exchanger. The lower shroud from the twin OEM fans will require mods.
I installed a 10 row oil cooler today with fresh air accommodations. No extremities from AC, Radiator, or HE. Just Fresh ambient air from under the hood.
hey Quant, quick question - how much weight did the sunroof delete save? 60-70lbs?
im considering it on my car this summer. did you just cut it out of the roof and weld in another sheet of steel/aluminum? (i dont know what the roof is made of stock). or did you put a whole new panel made of something else as your roof?

i think it only saved around 30lbs but it's on the highest part of car. I removed sunroof and the motor, it was all replaced with aluminum piece. Honestly it's only worth headache if you are tracking the car.

my car is only used for track and autocross. thats why i ask
i replaced my front seats with recaro sportster, that saved me 40lbs overall. and i dont really want to gut the car much. and to be honest alot of easy weight can be removed form the rear, but the car needs it in the front, or as you mention the top would be valuable as well.
i have a good custom body shop in my area, so it 'shouldnt' be much of a headache for me, just some money. but 30lbs isnt a ton, i was hoping it was more like 60... i will have to think about it.
honestly I don't know exact weight savings, but from my research on m3 e46 I expect around 30lbs. One of the biggest things I noticed was going with lighter wheels as the stocks one are extremely heavy.
I used to shave a lot of weight in my 70's and 80's street/strip cars by removing the carpet and sound deadener from the entire car. All trunk stripped.
Shaved up to 150 lbs and in those days I weighed about that plus beer. The Benz W208 in street trim is near 3800. Add a roll cage and beer you almost have to turn the car into a CLK GT V12 3000 lbs which had no integral uni-body. The current platform is very heavy but extremely quiet and safe.
Did a three gauge pillar mount with the carbon fiber look. Its cool but like you said much trimming.
