Estimated MPG
I'm fortunate enough to have a great daily commute of a winding downhill (1 mile) then 1 mile of stop and go intersections (about 4 blocks). With this kind of driving Mon-Fri, multiplied by 2, how often would one estimate I have to top off the tank?
Assume staring on a full tank, no passengers, top down.
I don't know what years you were looking at but it appears earlier, torque-ier models, which I assume all had 2.82 rears were rated roughly 17/24. Later, more freely revving models I assume had 3.06 rears and were rated 16/22. The post-2008 updated ratings which tend to be more realistic are 16/22 and 14/21 respectively.
Most V8 cars can easily exceed their highway mpg on cruises, but not so much their city. Your downhill coast should even out with the few stoplights, so your mpg should be fairly evenly split. In which case you're looking at averaging 18mpg. That's only a gallon for 4 days of travel.
Although, not to be extremely cliché, but if the slightest thought of mpg for just a 2 mile commute came to mind, maybe you're looking at the wrong car. Just because it has a V8 I don't not care like some, but there is to be an expected range(I'm considering 3, very different V8 cars). It's all about the smiles per gallon.
