Mysterious weight

It hangs from the car on the passenger side apron near the bumper

Hi Folks,
I removed my front bumper cover today for SC HE water pump install. Other repairs like ball joints, drag link are completing.
Ever come across one of these? Its some kind of weight for driver ballast or battery counter weight. Hmmmm

I suddenly dont feel so guilty about adding the extra weight from SC and HE paraphernalia after removing this mass.
I have read about them on old W124 forums but the L6 had a torque characteristic of its own.
Originally thought it was a fuel canister but now makes room for HE pump and shaves weight.

Cheers, Gator

I have to guess around 20lb or just under 4 gallons of water.
it was rubber mounted and may have been designed to correct a vibration. Hmmm
The shadow knows.
Cheers
