W208 clk 55 AMG value (undervalue)
Just bought an 02 CLK 55 AMG cabrio. Just turned over 75k, triple black, I'm 3rd owner, all books and records from day 1, always southern car.
It is THE best, most fun car I have owned. Granted, my past MB's have been a 63 190 D, 04 240D, 82 300SD...( and NO I did not rob any banks in any of these cars)........ Anyway I totally love my CLK 55 AMG.
My question is................. Why are the values of these cars so low? I bought the W208 for the bulletproof engine and 5 speed transmission.
On Ebay today there are 6 W208, clk55 AMG's for sale, an 01 Cp, 120k $7500 - 01 Cp 40k, $13,900 - 02 Cp, 92 k, $3600 - 02 convt. 68k , $7900
02 convt 66k, $9995, - 02 convt 140k, $5995. For an average price of $8600 . I keep an eye on the auctions, Mecum, Barrett, BAT, etc. and the prices for these cars, even the SL's just seem awfully weak.
I totally understand the heritage of the car, location, books, records, color, are foremost when looking for a "good" car.
In my opinion, these are the MOST fun cars for the buck in the market today. Of all cars.........
I bought my CLK in Savannah and drove it home to Ks, 1200mi in 2 days, Cruise set on 90, and was THE BEST road trip of my life!!!!!!!
I think these cars are keepers................???????? opinions???????
It's only a number tho....don't worry much about it on a 16 year old car. As long as you got a good deal and are happy...
i just picked up a 90k mile example for a song.
expect the rarity, desireability and performance to see the best examples start climbing in a few years' time.
driver quality cars will probably be much slower to appreciate, but still expect to see a clean example set you back 10k or more in the very near future
Just make sure they have a solid maintenance history, and you can get fantastic performance for a fraction of the price of a new one.
