Engine mods
What are the options for modding this engine? Anyone have any experience with chips, intake, exhaust? Probably wont to a s/c at least for now. I'm looking at the upcoming SLK55. To get close to 390HP would be nice.

It's not likely you will get any gains by changing the exhaust.
ECU reprogram and carbon fiber airbox runs $3,495 at RennTech....claims 20hp gain and increase 24 lbs.-ft. torque.
Expensive power, IMO.

cheaper mods
Not really a mod but replacing the air filter for a decent performance filter is the cheapest and best upgrade.

<sniped from Mercedes-Benz Club forums>
"ALL hot wire MAF sensors are sensitive to dirty (or oil-laden) air - I posted a warning to this list several weeks ago and I preach it in my tech seminars - DO NOT use K&N (or any other so-called high flow) air filters with the hot-wire MAF system.
The MB OEM filters are superior to any after market filter in efficiency and surface area . . . they will protect your MAF sensor - those things are expensive . . .

I believe the MAF sensors run about $500 on an AMG V8.
