COMAND DVD/Television... How is it done?

I have been hearing from many ppl that the Mercedes-Benz COMAND System can be wired to play DVD's and broadcast television channels.

1. Does anyone know what is involved?
2. Has anyone done it with success?
3. If so, what parts are needed?
4. Where can these parts be purchased?
5. Whats the total cost?
6. Does it interfere with the Navigation System?

Thanks!

Please do a search here on mbworld for "comand tv tuner".

Also check www.mbenznl.com

I think you might be surprised at your own questions after performing the search!

Thanks for the site. Has anyone here installed something like this in their CLK? If so, are you satisfied with the quality of the picture in the COMAND screen?

Our COMAND has the DVD and TV function, but it is an option available on European cars. It doesn't interfere with the Navigation but the DVD/TV does fade out if you go above 5mph.

Firstly, you need to have the TV capable comand unit. Thereafter it goes something like this .....

Method 1
------------
Install TV tuner and then install DVD player to connect to TV tuner.

Method 2
------------
Install an AV interface box instead of TV tuner and then a DVd player.

* Anyone with WIN-STAR from ICM can enable TV to run all the time not just when parked. This is however illegal - so dont put any bad vibes on me.

Parts
------
- TV tuner
- Fuse wire (from 10/2 SAM to TV tuner - 10amp)
- TV aerials - NECVOX with MB connectors.
- TV bracket
- cable from TV tuner to comand
- RHS rear trunk lining to accept option 810 or 845

Setup
--------
STAR diagnostic or WINSTAR can enable Steering wheel channel control.

Installation
--------------
As per Mercedes WIS files .... Workshop information can be bought online

Time taken to install
-------------------------
2 experts about 4-6 hours

Total cost
-------------
If you are lucky it can be just the cost of the TV tuner and DVD. Maybe you can find out what you need by getting some feedback from a car wizard like Steve (MBenzNL).

How hard is it ?
----------------------
Once it is all plugged in it is really just so easy. The trick is to know what to do with the car and where to run the cables.

Does it mess up navigation
-----------------------------------
Well if you are parked and have a legal setup ..... no .........

If you have an illegal setup then it will still talk to you and show arrows in the instrument cluster.

The TV tuner and Navigation have individual pages in the instrument cluster.
