W209 AMG brakes for W208 CLK55 - caliper bracket
so my 2002 CLK 55 needed front brakes badly and after reading a few posts on bolt on W209 CLK 55 discs and calipers (instead of spending $500+ just on rotors for the CLK 55) I got some low miles 2003 W209 CLK 55 calipers and new rotors. They came without the caliper mounting brackets unfortunately and when test fitting these calipers on my car I have a hard time believing that this will work even with the W209 caliper mounting brackets. So just want to hear from someone who has done that swap that with the W209 mounting brackets these calipers will fit a 208 without mods.
and if that's the case, anyone has W209 brackets for sale ?
thx much

'guess I answered my own question by doing some more web research - the 209 calipers mount directly to the w208 spindle without the mounting brackets - so problem solved

"W209" brakes will fit "W208" for sure, but really not worth it,,
IMO; the best & reliable brakes from 06-11 (R171 SLK55) with 6-pot Fronts & 4-pots Rears..

here are a couple pics - I bought the calipers from a used 2003-2004 W209 CLK 55 and new OEM rotors for the same year (later years rotor diameters changed I believe) - and bought new brake caliper bolts and new brake line rubber hoses as well. You will need to bleed the brakes as you switch calipers and it was easily done with my older vaccum bleeder - just bleed the one caliper that you replaced at a time - no need to bleed all 4 wheels (I was careful when replacing the brake line and held the end shut with my thumb not to drain all the brake fluid while assembling the new caliper with my other free hand). Add new quality brake fluid, make sure the level in the brake fluid reservoir doesn't go completely down, top off if needed - bleeding took less than 10minutes per side.
Clearance is fine with the Monoblock AMG wheels but maybe double check if you have aftermarket wheels as there is not much clearance left as you can see in the pic.
The brake pad sensor connector is different so I left it off - didn't trigger any dash lights.
one more thing: the rotors had a different location for the holding screw that fixes the rotor to the wheel hub. They don't line up with the 208 hub. So I used the old rotor as pattern and carefully drilled a new hole in the new rotor to attach it to the hub. The lug nuts would hold it as well of course but 'didn't like the idea of not attaching it to the wheel hub. Will post some more pics
I purchased the W209 calipers not so much as an upgrade - many people reported that the AMG 208 calipers are as good if not better than the 209 calipers but pricewise the upgrade makes sense as the total including calipers, rotors, pads and brake lines still came cheaper than buying just the rotors for the 208 AMG
