Wrecked CLK500..CLK55 replacement advice??
I posted under the CLK page where a kid turned in front of me and totaled out my 2006 CLK500 with 49k miles on it. I found a CLK55 with around 150k miles to replace it, but I was curious if there was anything to look out for on a car with that kind of mileage? The only option the car is missing is cooled seats, which I had on my 500 but I might be able to live without them. What's a CLK55 worth with 150k on it in average condition? The car isn't my everyday driver so I am not as worried about the mileage on the next one if it was maintained properly. Any advice is appreciated! If anyone knows any for sale let me know as well!

Sorry to hear about your CLK, but glad you're ok. Looks like a serious wreck!
For the 55, what year is it? Color? Condition? Maintenance records? Cab or coupe? All stock or mods? Wheels? Lots of variables to give a good price. If it's all stock, in good condition, with regular maintenance, $8-$11k would be reasonable. Main things I see mentioned to have checked are bushings (control arms, motor and transmission mount). Pretty cheap and easy fix if you're handy, though.

Average condition. There’s a small tear in the bottom of the seat I know and I really dislike that. Headlights are fogged over some. All stock. Bright silver on black color combo. In the pictures the srs light is on also.

Would an 05 clk55 have a power trunk? My 06 had it and had the open/close button on the drivers door. A lot of the 05’s I’ve seen just have a single trunk button on the drivers door..

Not sure on the '05. My '04 doesn't have it.
Headlight fogging is easy if it's only on the exterior - DA buffer or even a buffer pad for a drill and some polish (compound if it's really bad).
For the SRS, that's a bit tougher. If it was just due to a one-time electrical gremlin setting off the sensor, a good scan tool can reset it. If not, it could be a sign there was either an impact, or a sensor has failed.

I went back and looked at the car I'm looking at and it actually says it's an 06. I really hope it has a power trunk. First world problem, but I really liked that on my 500. PapaChop83 does your car have keyless go?

You can go to www.kbb.com and then to price used cars, chose dealer or individual and then go through and check off what accessories it has to get pricing ranges as to condition.

The CLK55 I was interested in says top visit work shop, srs warning, and run flat sensor inactive or something along those lines. I like the car, but the top issue definitely pushes me away from it. How bad are these tops to tear into? My last one didn’t have any issues.

SRS on the 2002 Clk is likely a damaged wire in the trans tunnel area beside the console.
Some folks seemed to have hijacked this thread.
other culprits can be a jambed seat belt latch.
SRS is easy if you inspect.
Best, Gator

In my experience, these cars can throw big bills at you.
If the spread of prices in your area is not great, I would consider buying the best maintained / lowest mileage car you can.
That is based on the fact that most people on a forum like this really like to take care of their cars and keep them to a high standard.

Drives an 08 CLK 550 cab, 2013 E350 sport 4matic, 08 Malibu V6
You may want to consider a CLK550. They're less rare than the 55's. My 550 has an OETune and I just installed the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit (46-181817). It's a totally different ride with just over 400hp and pretty awesome handling. My car has approx 40,000 miles and had the original MB sports suspension. It's not the same car whatsoever anymore.
Glad you're safe .....and good luck with your search

I have a 2002 CLK55 and absolutely love the car. It's been very solid for me for the last 11 years. There have been some big bills, especially in the last year. I have done plugs, wires, coils, lower control arms, ball joints, rear shocks, front springs, and a few other things. It was not cheap but these are all wear items IMO and they just all sorta came around the same time. The year or 2 before I did all motor and trans mounts too. My CLK55 has 125K which really isn't a ton for these cars if maintained. I expect many people would be scared off by my mileage if they were buying, but so much has been done and I have all the receipts etc. You could buy one with 80k miles and not know what has been done and get burned.
I do think its great replacement for your car. They are so cool, and rare. I am lucky if I see 3 or 4 a year on the road and I live in a large city.
Good luck!

As to seeing them around, I've yet to see one in Oklahoma City. Hell, I barely see W208/W209 regular CLKs... Then again, this is truck country.
