Brake Caliper Question

Hey guys...so I wanted to test out my rear brake calipers. Had my friend sit in car and press brake pedal. Had to press very hard and the pistons compressed slow...like real slow. Only the inward pistons moved...are the outward ones suppose to love as well?

Once they got near fully extended the driver side started to leak brake fluid.

The pistons seem quite rusty.

Should I just get new calipers????

Thoughts on best places to buy? Need ASAP
thanks guys!!

I compressed the leaking piston completely, brake fluid shot out nice stream. Rather than risk losing fluid every time I hit the brakes do I just have no choice but to get new calipers?

Thanks!!

I don't know if they needed to be replaced before, but it sounds like you overextended a piston and blew the seal. You can have a brake shop rebuild them. But the best approach is have them replaced. If you tackle the job yourself make sure you read about how. If, in fact, you pumped away without a rotor to limit the travel, you need to do a bit of homework first.

Lol that's a good point...I mean 180k miles I would assume so... and I figured when I did the pads and rotors they would go eventually but seemed to be working nicely. Looks like these last two northeast winters have really done a number on the rear end of the car.

So anyways...with a rotor and pads in there I don't think I would have been able to get the same idea of how darn slow only one was pushing. I had them propped on jack stands to limit that much travel, but must just be a moron.

So anyway..best advice for buying remand calipers? Partgeek?

HA I really don't know what I'm doing...I have phantom black series stainless lines on there so I can't really pinch them to stop fluid leaking so best advice?

Make sure the reservoir is full and just pop it off and pop the new one on as fast as possible? Then just bleed the rear two? Think I need to bleed all 4? Thanks guys.

Lol I'm kinda lost here... I'm not used to not just going with MB genuine parts but don't really want to spend $650 on calipers when they're rear and some $60 reman should do the trick. Only thing is I've never bought reman stuff before. And I haven't bought from rock auto or parts geek since I've had a cobalt SS.

Any advice...also why TF do some companies only make a right or a left almost impossible to get both from the same reman guys

thanks!!
