of course the benz is more comfortabel, but for the difference in everything else, the 997 is so much better...IMO you'd have to be smoking some pretty good **** to pick a clk55 over the carrera S unless you really prefer the comfort. btw, why are basing your comparison on the old porsche?? why don't you go test drive the 997 S before making your choice?

I just bought a 996 Conv. I looked at the CLK500 Conv but just felt it wasn't "pure". CLK looks and is a sedan with 2 doors (sport coupe) and not a sports car. CLK had plenty of rear seat room but if I wanted to haul people, I would have bought an E or S.
I wanted a sports car. Not a sedan or sports coupe.
For daily driver and ppl mover, go with CLK.
For excitement and pure sports, go with Porsche.
To me, having a small backseat is ok. I like loud exhaust compared with mute exhaust. It's a macho thing. If you like isolation and want to talk on your phone while driving, get a Lexus. They have great Navigation and bluetooth.
