W208 CLK 230K Diff Leaking need Overhaul
Hi all,
After noticing some oil like marks on my drive I decided to take my w208 to a local indy specialist to take a look and suspected the leak was diff oil. I thought it couldn't be engine oil as it actually cleaned off the block paving "relatively" easily. Anyway a diff oil leak was confirmed from the N/S driveshaft seal.
The indy advised he didn't have the tooling to perform an overhaul of the diff so I have contacted an old specialist where I used to live and they are happy to do the work. Apparently 6-7 hours labor to remove, do all seals including pinion seal etc and refit. The parts come to ~£180 (not including the sealant tube which is £80!!!), then £480 labor.
I was wondering if anybody else on here has ever overhauled one of these before? I haven't got the instructions / procedure to hand but I'd be keen to know of any other parts I should look to replace whilst the diff is stripped out. Moreover given the car is 21 years old, I have been warned that other unknown issues could arise with the strip down etc. I am in two minds whether to monitor it or just bite the bullet and do it. It required 0.8L of diff oil to top it up so clearly an amount has leaked but I'm not sure when the level was last checked etc.
Clearly there is a risk that a whole heap of issues might be discovered whilst undertaking this job.
Appreciate feedback and thoughts and be great if somebody can share the procedure.
