Is STAR the only suitable diagnostic tool?

Is STAR the only suitable diagnostic tool?
Is there anything else on the market that can match the capabilities of STAR?
For me, spending £500+ on a complete set up isn't worth it for the amount of use it will get. But finding someone with the tool (other than the dealer) is also a pain in the ****.
I don't mind spending the money on something that is versatile and will work across a range of vehicles, but from what I gather, nothing else can do what STAR does?

I am by no means saying it is in any way Star equivalent but the Foxwell NT530 just came out at a bargain price and it is very powerful.

It all depends on the purpose of use.
I purchased a Bosch handheld scanner that works on OBD1 and OBD2 and so far it's been good.
You can read faults, clear them and also read live data. But it has limitations to what it can read in your car.
This scanner also has a 32 pin port cable.
