How expensive should this be I had a mechanic tell me it could be a $12000 price tag to replace a timing chain

Do a few google searches for this code...in most cases, it's a bad sensor sometimes corrected with an oil change...if sensor is bad a few hundred....highly unlikely that it's timing chain ...go to an independent MB place and ask for what they feel is the problem.

did you get it fixed? You should just change the camshaft magnet on passenger side and you should be good 50$
