I think the limiting factor is range. Most of my driving is highway, and shortly after 200 miles, the reserve fuel warning comes on. While the tank is something over 16 gallons, typically I am putting in 12 or 13. When I drive my normal highway style (75-90 mph), fuel consumption is just north of 17 mpg. Higher speeds will drop that down. AS

Drove mine from Bay Area to Newport and back. Good break in sequence to get > 1900 miles for the differential oil change. Drove mostly around 85mph on Interstate 5 (very straight road forever if you are not familiar). Went up the Grapevine at 100 just because I could.... Anyway got an amazing 19.7 MPG, tanked up at around 270 miles. Not what I would call a fun drive but the car was really comfortable-plugged the iPod into the Aux jack and just cruised.

I did the differential oil change at 771 miles, because of some potential plans.

MB authorized the work and said it was OK to do the oil change between 500 and 3000 miles.

Problem w/many high-hp, low MPG cars today is range for even normal urban commuting....

Rarely drive beyond 75mis of SF/LA (too much ADD to deal w/the boredom of driving beyond these regions)......only get 11-12MPG in my mix of urban/high-speed fwy/mtn twisties driving......no matter CL63/SL65/599/997TT....

Cars w/<18gall tanks like 997TT....or CLK BS....are incredibly annoying for even daily urban commute duty (esp in regions like SF where some have 90mi round-trip SF-SiliconValley commutes (prob one of fastest, most enjoyable commutes in world but burns fuel rapidly).....

And cars like 599/430....though w/28gall tanks....have fuel tanks w/dubious crashworthiness.....net, net, perhaps just as useless for commuting/GT use, esp if one needs to "risk-adjust" range for any collision.....
