ECU Tunning Who do you all recomend?

Let me first start off by saying that I don't own a black series, just a standard CLK 63 cabrio, but I figured I would ask the experts. I'm kind of new here (last week) and very new to mb ownership, this is my first mb, I have owned several BMWs but I am not familar with who offers what for mb's. As I stated in another thread last week I am not looking to turn my car into a race car, just give it a little more pep. I am looking into some wheels/tires and am thinking about an ECU tune-up. Which tuners have you guys used and who do you recomend and why. Does it even make sense to do an ECU with stock mufflers and pipes on these 63 motors? Last but not least, is my 63 motor the same as the 63 black series motor internally, my dealership told me it was, but I never take what they say to heart, you know how dealers and salesmen can be. How does the black series get the extra 25-30hp from the factory over my CLK? Is it compression, heads, cams or is it just electronics? Can I just get a black series ECU tune to make up the extra hp?

thanks

There are a number of tuners that offer ECU upgrades, Evosport (Powerchip), Renntech, and Kleeman. Each has a different take on why their upgrade is best. I'm sure there will be a lot of testimonials on this thread.
The internals on 63's are all the same. The difference is exhaust, intake (black series) and electronics. Based upon my testing 60-120 mph the Evosport ecu upgrade knocked off a full second. That's a lot. Some tunners are more aggressive with there tuning but basicly, nobody has cracked the Siemans code for this ecu, so they are all changing four parameters, speed limiter, timing, fuel and throttle. That's it.
Just changing the ecu isn't that simple. The AMG ecu's on the Clk 63 also control transmission. The axel ratio of the clk is different than on the black series, so I think you'd have some drivability issues at the very least.
I'd find some better rubber as these cars need more grip even in stock form.

This almost sounds to good to be true, 85 hp out of an ECU tune on an aspirated motor. Keep in mind my CLK 63 cabrio only makes 475 in stock form. Who is DMS? I am new to MB ownership, but I have not yet come across this name in my searching and investigating. I am getting number tuners with claims of 30-40hp gains with an ECU only tune.

There is also a home grown tuner, MHP (Modern Horsepower), that posts in the C63 section.

Yes, Modern Horsepower/MHP, I was all ready to send him my ECU this week or next week but then I realized what an un-professional business person he was. Besides that it is starting to appear that he can not offer all of the stuff he says he can. He supposedly had a car on the dyno last tuesday and he has yet to post up any dyno charts or proof of what he is claiming. He is also claiming to be working with several MB dealerships about offer his tunes as dealer addded options that will be fully factory warrantied which is a false statement.

Very disapointing to say the least.

We've done nothing but deliver dyno graphs, track vids, road vids, testimony from other mbworld.org members (with substantially more credibility than you) and all you've done is personally attack us, take our statements out of context and attempt to spin them in your favor.

Grow up.

"You dirty sneaky bastage Now I'm really angry. This is fargon war."

The fact that you have gathered the above from all the posting that Andy has done would lead me to believe that you must be about 6 years old. But the fact that you're referencing a 25 yr old movie and (still finding it funny) obviously means otherwise. Why don't u pick up the phone and call Andy instead of posting absurd nonsense. "Appears he can not offer all the stuff he says he can"???? WTF are u talkin about man ? Please provide specific examples instead of spouting off nonsense. You fargon Corksucker.

Nothing against MHP, but we have not seen a history of your ECU/TCU tunes and how the vehicles hold up. All of the tuner companies could go to the very edge of tuning and make your car go absolutely incredible...for about 5K miles and then you start to have mechanical issues.

Not saying yours does or will, but we don't have that history yet...especially in the AMG world.

Powerchips has been doing ECU tunes for 15 years give or take and has a good rep for not toasting the vehicles they work on. I do not believe they do TCU yet which I believe will help MHP become a real player.

I wish everyone good luck as we all benefit from it.
