Someone wanted it for a good price so i let it go. I'm still waiting on the rods, and the heads are pretty much all done. The intake side flowed 390cfm @ under .500" lift and the exhaust lacked a little so that is what we are working on. I got some regrinds made with the stock cams good for a turbo application, and if they work well i can easily make them out of billet. I'm also trying to figure out a way to tune this computer for the cams and throttle. Anyways the motor is going in a real CLK Black Series now. Its still on and rocking, just a little "business" road block but its going to be better this way...

Glad to hear this is still in the works! How much did you let the car go for?

CLK63 Black Series
The seller on Ebay states:

"this unit is out of a 2007 mercedes AMG 63 suv"

Is that correct? Did they put the 63 engine in their SUV's in Model Year '07?

I don't normally pay much attention to those cars, since they're not the type of vehicle that I would buy.

I still have all the parts to finish the project. I just sold the car. The motor is pretty much done except the cams, and I have pretty much all the parts to finish up the turbo kit. As of right now I found a couple cars and i might pull the trigger on one pretty soon...

I originally bought the motor the same way. It was out of a totaled E63 with low mileage on it. I will keep everyone posted. I just don't want to blow smoke up everyone's butt till i get the car and the built motor is in and i start fabbing up the turbo kit. Call me nuts i guess.

eh, I'd prefer CP pistons over ross, and I would have at least gas ported the pistons. A swaintech coating would also have been helpful.

Also, please don't talk about mihovetz's crank. Its been so heavily modified it has basically nothing in common with a stock kellogg piece.

Like you said, its just preference with the pistons. Ross is a great company and I've had great luck with them so i took that route.

Mihovetz aside I've personally build mod motors that make over 1500hp with stock 8 bolt cranks. How can you so heavily modify a crank and not just make it worse? Enlighten me please...

The stock 8 bolt is a very good piece, as are the teksid and wap blocks.

I don't remember the exact specifics, but he drastically cut the counterweights to lighten the crank, nitrided it, shotpeened, etc.

the core of the crank may be the same, but its had dozens of hours of work done on it. Its a 2600bhp engine, thats to be expected.

Same goes for his cylinder heads. They may be stock b-castings but they are so heavily worked that you can't really call them stock. Whats funny is the original teksid block in my 99 cobra is the one he uses (or used) in his race car.

I'd say more impressive is tim Palmers 98 cobra that ran 8s on a basically stock motor (forged internals, but little else).

good luck with your project.

Yea thats not really heavily modified but whatever. I've personally ran 8's in a stock 03 cobra motor with the exception of head studs and main studs and a big turbo and an automatic. It also went 5's in he 8th mile plenty of time

Updates aren't crazy... The motor is pretty much all figured out. I've been toying with a lot of chyrsler/mercedes software to see what capabilites it has. I need a black series!!! I'm never one to over extend myself for my hobbies, especially at a time like this. I am just patient. I think if i do this sometime this year it will still be an awesome project. twin turbo mercedes never gets old lol.
