Do I Have the iPod Kit?

Okay, I'm one of the very few that can live my life without an iPod. But, since I've been on travel a lot lately and have not had time to really investigate my car where would the iPod connection be if I had one?

I have one in my car; I believe it was the only option for the BS. It's located in the glove compartments on the upper right corner next to the CD changer. Unfortunately, it does not charge the Ipod. I'm sure after market connectors are available, I would look into one that charges.

IIRC the connection in the glove box is a simple 1/8" mini plug for the AUX input. It works OK but you have zero control of the iPod via the COMAND unit....you have to actually grab the iPod if you want to change track, etc. Not so bad if you have a nice long playlist running but if you wanna hear a specific track you have to grap the iPod. And, as Todd mentioned, it does not charge so you will run out of juice on a long trip.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I looked in the glove compartment and found what appears to a a round shallow silver input plug surrounded by a larger black holder. It is near the front of the glove compartment high on the right side. Is this it? I also checked my Owners manual and Command manual and could find no reference to iPod.

Yup, that's it. Just get a mini plug cable that is male to male and you will be all set.

FYI, I can control the ipod with the stock connection, so I would think there must be a way to set up the ipod to control through the steering wheel controls.

LZH, I think you can not control your IPOD through comand feature because you do not have the factor stock option.

man, i control mine through the steerling wheel... just flip threw the options in your steering wheel until it comes to the CD TRACK / AUDIO, and you will be able to change through the UPPER LEFT buttons, and select with your bottom left buttons..

if I could choose thorugh the navigations controls that would be cool... but i have no problem choosing through the dashboard... I dont see why mercedes would make each differently.. play around with your steering wheel and you'll figure it out for sure.

I believe you will find that you can control via the steering wheel control buttons and the iPod does charge as long as the car is running. At least that is my experience with my factory iPod connection in my 08 Black.

Ya, I was gonna say, mine charges my iPod just fine and I can control through the steering wheel controls, I found that out by mistake actually. Being able to view it up on the nav display like on my ML would be sweet. The ML has a great auxilary iPod system, funny how twice the price gets you half as much LOL...I'll take the BS over the ML any day, unless it's snowing.

it wont charge an itouch or iphone because they are 5 volt usb. i believe the actual ipod is firewire and thats what the mercedes cars have. What you can do and it is what i did is, there is a company called kensington and the make a a plug where you can adapt from an ipod to iphone or itouch and it has a usb connection on the side, and you get a car charger that is usb, take it apart find a 12 volt source and do some soldering and you have power.
