Whilst I agree about the underside, I would be very careful steam cleaning an engine bay (ecu, electrics).. I personally like my BS to look immaculate when I take it out. I don't use it that often but plan to keep it a long time and therefore choose not to drive it in the rain on the very dirty UK roads.

If I was only keeping the car a short time before I moved on to something else I probably still wouldn't drive it in the rain but that's me .... right, no; but great to buy a car from

It horses for courses. Even my track car gets polished reguarly. If I were buying a second hand car and had to choose between one that was used in all weathers and one that was only driven in the dry, all other things being equal, I'm going with the "dry" car everytime. Rightly or wrongly I believe it gives a pointer to how the car has been used/cared for.

And before you ask, yes, I believe I could tell the difference between a "steam cleaned" car and a "dry" car. Not something to be proud of but...

I have refrained from posting here b/c I know what's coming.....

Mileage on mine is 1900 - .....not saving it for anyone and I enjoy the hell out of it each and everytime I get behind the wheel. It's a forth or fifth car so it just doesn't get out much and I'm okay with that.

True dat (well except for the youth part)!

w/o a doubt.

Having had the concours bug previously in my life I can tell you that once the underside of a car that has been soiled/stained/degraded from road grime, dirt, animal guts and every other nasty substance thrown up on the underside of any car that sees a lot of rain is all but impossible to ever bring back. Same for the engine compartment......

Here is the engine compartment on my 1995 928 GTS before and after (the b/f was in 2000 and the car had 8,300 miles):

Before:

After:

Trust me, I have done it several times.....

I am blessed in that I have the good fortune of being in a positioln to have a car that has the sole duty of dog hauler, grocery getter, lumber truck and any other chore you can come up with so you won't see a roof rack on any of my other cars and you're not likely to see them out in nasty weather either......

About 14,500, seen plenty of rain, snow, ice, gravel and salt. I dont give a crap, I buy a car to drive it an I have never sold a car and had a person ask me if it's seen rain. 98% of people dont care. If they have the ***** to ask that, then I'll just sell it to someone else.

You see that kind of weather in Redondo Beach ?
Actually, I know you don't....
But I like the fact that you drive it (somewhere) to see those conditions !

Everyone enjoys their cars in different ways - drive it in the rain, don't drive it in the rain; beat the pi$$ out of it, baby it - whatever makes you happy. That's the point of cars like the BS - to make you happy. A Kia will get you to work too.

The one thing that I don't like about babying a car is that I miss it more when its gone than when I drive the pi$$ out of it. I guess the additional effort in babying it increases the attachment. I need to get to the point where I can just afford to keep all of my favorites.

+1 Well said!!! We're all different in the way we find enjoyment in our cars. None are right and none are wrong.....
