Is it a matter of just turning counter clockwise? I just don't know how much force I should be exerting.

not familiar with your model, but if the knob fitment is similar to most other MBs
it is simply a locking collar. palm on knob. reach down with index and thumb
and twist 90 degrees or so CCW (as viewed from top). pull up on knob.

So no twisting at all? Just pull up. What's holding it in place?

Check there is not a set screw under first. If the isn't then do as Raymond has said....but also use your judgment if if is not wanting to move.

Have you removed your knob before on this car?

CLK BS shift knob unscrews CCW but it's on too tight for factory - so just wrap it well in a folded cloth & apply a large crescent wrench to it & it'll break free

Could you tell if there might have been some type of thread locking fluid used? Not necessarily a high strength locker, but maybe something to make sure the knobs don't come lose after years of use?

And if so, maybe need some to return to this setup after it's removed and installed again. When you screwed yours back on did it align perfect when the threads got tight enough that is was on fully so to say?

Thanks, details help today for this guy, but later for those that search .

It may have had some light thread-lock on it - but I've only unscrewed it twice (it's CF now) so I don't plan on removing it multiple times & find out if it loosens to easily. I know when I screwed it back on 'til it squared-up took alot of torque (by hand) & it's really on there.

Shift knob. 2092607040
Shiftgate. 2092670188

Tks ^ I was wondering if it will fit a C-Class (C63). The one we have is very cheap.

Just by the size, you will need to custom make a new shifgate surround. As it is, the c63 shift gate surround will gobble up the clk bs shift gate. You could probable use the bs shift knob, but without the gate it's going to look pretty silly.

Oh I was just thinking the thread-locker as a factory add so 10 years or more of people shifting in and out of gears did not result in a loose knob some day. As it seems with well designed and built cars like the MBs, the knob tightens just as it squares up, nice! Thanks for the details

Everyone, I did this and it did break free. Unfortunately there is threadlock and it was tight all the way until it came off. I put one layer of terry cloth at some point to cut corners and I shredded the knob. New parts are on order, what an idiot i am (expensive 2 second mistake).

(name?, I ain't gonna type all that, but I typed all this ;-), so will just say "dude", sorry to hear the learning mistake, hope the knob was not too much $$. Thanks for the update, hope it saves the next owner, that's whats nice about forums, share the knowledge, share the wisdom (a fancier word for I already broke something doing that, learn from me) share the fun, and the pain .

Someone said maybe a white color on their threads, is white the color of the leftover threadlocker on yours? I am sure there is threadlocker from more than just Permatex, so their common blue and red mixes are not the only colors to be found but was it maybe light blue by chance?

That would make sense, Permatex blue mixtures are typically medium strength, reds more permanent. The blue version goes light/light blue after it sets up. If anyone taking theirs off and finding later it moved off of being straight-on could add a small amount of blue threadlocker to remedy that.

Important...

For anyone trying to remove this knob, i've already damaged two knobs using standard pliers covered with cloth and padding. Import makes a wonderful soft jaw plier that grips strongly but did not damage the knob's finish. Just a fyi. It's cheaper than replacing the knob which is now $135 + shipping on parts.com. I still placed a rubber glove over the knob just for added protection.

import soft jaw pliers
