[QUOTE=DFW01E55;4472546]I did mine in gold.

Did you change the color by powder coating . . .

. . . or by repeated braking during hot lap track sessions?

Yes, I have a question for you guys who changed the color of your calipers...

Did you remove the caliper completely, then powercoat it, paint it with car
paint? high temp paint?, install sticker decal, then clear it with high temp.

cost?

interreseted

thanks guys

Not so much repeated as required. You should see them when they're hot, they get even darker. The right caliper more than the left.

Just the fronts but if you leave the TC on and track it, they will all be gold.
I guess that's a hint at resale time!

I drive the **** out of my BS and I have NEVER had a caliper turn that color. Perhaps your calipers were part of a defective batch during the casting or finishing process ??

I hope not, I know other owners who've experienced the same.
There are 2 tracks here where you go from 135 - 145 down to 50 as fast as possible and I've done maybe 100 laps there, so I'm inclined to think that's the source.

Then I'd say the part is defective or there was some QC issues during the painting process. I've run lots of race cars around lots of tracks in this country that demand much more out of the brakes, and never had a caliper turn a different color....and I'm talking about the same brakes, Brembos etc that you can buy for the street. Turn 1 at Big Willow is at the end of the front straight - I've hit well over 130mph and brought it back down to ~60-70mph at least 100 times and have had no issue with caliper discoloration - and that is a HEAVY braking area followed by the tightest section of the track so that the brakes don't have much time to cool off after turn 1.

I know Jim Brady, Sascha and many others here have run there countless times too and have had no issues with caliper discoloration.

Have you brought it up to your dealer? If so, what did they say? If it were me I'd be raising hell.

EDIT: The calipers retain heat in different areas....some areas more than others. The fact that every square inch of your caliper has turned the SAME uniform color leads me to believe that this is a defect of some sort.

not so fast, many of the clks at the driving academy had gold calipers as well as the clk Black safter car that I saw at Indy years ago.

Perhaps you are not pushing as hard as you think you are

LOL - sit shotgun with me for a 1:30 lap at Willow on NON R compounds and see if you still think I don't know what 10/10th's is - just make sure to wear a diaper.

I think we can all agree that the BS came from the factory with silver painted calipers, right ? Well, if ANY of them turn yellow I'd say that's a warranty claim. And remember - AMG built this car specifically for the TRACK. If doing what the car was intended for makes the calipers discolor then I'd say there is a defect. But that begs the question....
If your car sat out in the Arizona sun for a year and turned gold, would you be ok with it ? Didn't think so....

YELLOW? I much prefer to call it gold!

I've seen CL63's do it, SLK55's and other BS's as mentioned.
Note though that mine are darker at the top and lighter toward the bottom.

Too much braking not enough gassing!

The R35 GT-Rs have some impressive Brembo BBKs as OEM equipment, and have been known to turn the orange painted calipers towards a brown colour when used hard on the road course. Different courses will exert differing effects, but stopping a really fast, almost 4,000lb car, (like a CLK BS, GT-R, etc), down repeatedly from high speed can discolour the brakes. This will be seen far more on tracks that don't have longer straight sections allowing the brakes to cool down sufficiently before being subjective to extreme thermal stress again.

The red paint looks good to me

I have also heard of the paint color changing from exposure to high temps, I thought it was designed that way for identification of track use but who knows I'm not a racer myself.

Here is a shot of the caliper on one of the instructor's cars at an AMG Driving Event at Nurburgring in October 2006.
The car is an Asia Cup SLK55.

I think I would describe the tint, as the color of money.
