MB Nubie

Greetings guys...new to MB and have caught the "Black Bug." Sadly (least according to my wife ), I'm fixated on getting a CLK63 Black. On the down side, my beloved 911 turbo will need to go.

I've been trolling the internet for over two months and have seen a couple of cars come/go, but several seem to be lingering...assume mainly due to the asking price. With the price of these cars all over the map (some owners can seem to come to grips with the major depreciation hit their cars have taken), I've narrowed in on what I think is a fair price for a low mileage, (between 5-10K miles), untracked car...@ $65K.

Does this price sound ball park based on anyone's first-hand experience?

Thanks for any feedback and looking forward to joining the club!

I'm no expert on US prices. But here in Europe that would be a steal.

Welcome to the club! That price is definitely in the norm if mileage isn't an issue, but with that mileage it's a little hard; even with the more common colors of silver/black, it's still not easy to locate one of that mileage within your asking price. Also depends on your area, if there's a lot of BS in the area then the price could get competitive for the selling party.

P.S. keep the 996tt! too!

Thx for the feedback. Realize that for a low mileage car, $65K is the low end (maybe off the low end) of the price spectrum, but I'm in no big hurry and will wait for the right car at the right price. That said, I'm ready to adjust by a few K if nesessary, but we'll see how the market shapes up. Will keep ya'll updated.

CLk Black
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I dont think you will find an untracked car with 5k to 10k for 65k. You will however be able to find that car for $72k to $75K depending on the color you want. In white or Red, there is no way, but in black and silver there are a lot around. Having said that, this is an awesome car and worth every penny. You will not be disappointed. this is coming from a previous TT owner as well.
Also dont harp so much on the mileage of the car as these cars/motors are pretty undestructable. Just be weary of the 4 to 5 owner cars with no service records.

Good luck with the search.

No funds exchanged yet, but closed a deal on a great looking car (black, 5.5K miles). Several oil changes, brake fluid and rear differential changed, but there are several maintenance gaps (coolant flush, plugs, etc). That said, car has been stored indoors, covered and started regularly. Setting up a PPI with a local Mercedes dealers now and barring any bad news, looking to pick it up next week. Looking forward to the drive home

As a current 997TT owner and former BS owner you've making an excellent choice. BTW, what year is your 996TT? It's probably a good time to sell it, 996TT prices aren't holding up IMO. I'm also watching the market for another BS, it's a GREAT car!

Agreed value seems to be dropping a lil. I had black it was cool but my 996 turbo was WAY faster.. The black looks absolutely beautiful.. That is what sold me.

Maybe he found out he can get more than $65k with just 5.5k miles?

Not $65K...

...but still under $70. Think I'm in striking range, even thru some dealers who aren't living in fantasy land. Have a buddy who periodically feeds me Black Book and auction prices, when he can get them, on these cars and you'd be shocked what they're selling for wholesale. That said, have couple of other lines in the water, will keep ya'll updated

Update...closed deal yesterday with deposit. Black, 5,500 mi, full maint history, new rubber...not $65k, so let me have it with "I told you sos" . That said, still think the price was very fair based on the market and outstanding condition of the car. Hope to drive the new love of my life (don't tell my wife) home this weekend!

How do you like your BS compared to your 996TT? I am hoping to make the same transition. Although I am worried the BS will not be fast enough.

CLK 63 AMG Black
I've got a BS and kept my 02 996ttX50 (UMW tune, wastegate's, exhaust, PSS10's). The BS is more exciting to drive daily, demoting the X50 to my winter ride on 4 snows. The competition is my new McLaren 12C, but in some ways the BS is more exciting than that as well. I've just passed 51,000 miles in the BS, and looking forward to doing another 50K. It's a great car. I've kept my 996tt too, my BS is stock so it's noticeable slower than my Pcar on peak power, the Pcar makes a healthy low~mid 5XXawhp on 91 pump with K24/18G, IPD plenum, GT3RS TB, 80lb injecors, GruppeM Carbon Intake, Arqray Titanium Headers, Arqray Titanium Exhaust, AWE intercoolers, and all possible bolt on mods + EPL custom remote tuned. However, like most have said here, the BS is somewhat more enjoyable to drive on most roads besides a straight line; I do believe it's also because it's stock, that gives me the feeling of it being more reliable to push it harder than my Pcar, which really has a lot of stuff done to it:

Loved my 996...brutal acceleration, laser sharp handling and more compliant ride...least in stock configuration. That said, there's something about the Black that makes it more of a "special" car, least for me. As many have said, there are faster, better handling, more technologically sophisticated and better looking cars (subjective), but as a complete package, few, at least in my mind, can match the Black. And like you, it was one or the other (least according to my wife and check book), so the turbo had to go.

i am glad to hear you are still happy with the choice.

My biggest issue with the Porsche is, I don't really drive it as much as I should. I really see myself driving the BS on a more regular basis. As for looks, there is an elegance that the CLK BS has that few cars, in my opinion, have.
