2008 CLK63 BS
Our new CLK63 BS and the races we have done this year.

My wife and I finally found our new car back in May, a white CLK63 BS. We have been looking for 3 years for a car that we could both drive and if needed (automatic), put the kids in back (will get to that later), something I could race, etc.

Over the years we looked at; 2-2011 Nissan GTR's, 1-Camaro ZL1, 1-CTS-V, 1-GT500, 3-Porsche 997.1 TT, 4-Porsche 996 TT, 1-Maserati Gran Turismo, 1-Aston Martin Vanquish (older models), 1-Jaguar XKR-S, 2-Jaguar XKR, 1-Jaguar XFR, etc, probably forgot something. We even looked at 2-CLK63 BS in black (never drove them) and my wife hated them. I was not looking for black, but only black CLK's in Illinois.

Finally a white CLK BS came available (California car) and my wife loved it! Since finding a car that my wife loves is the hardest part, we definitely snatched it up!

I have never road-raced before, but I did the Heidt's Performance Car Challenge this year at Autobahn in Joliet. Had a great time and learned a lot, even with the car having crap A/S tires (540 TW). I took the free Autocross school the first day. On the South course I finished 19th out of 29. The Autocross I finished 16th out of 24. Remember, I am a rookie and had crap tires.

Next race was the Optima Batteries "Face-Off" at Road America. This was a really cool event, still had the crap tires (new wheels not in yet, should have been in 3 weeks before!!!) I finished 17th overall out of 32 for 3000lb+ RWD. In the SpeedStop challenge I was 10th out of 32! This was my first ever SpeedStop.

The next race was last weekend, the Motor State Challenge. I did road racing at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI and Autocross at the Tire Rack in South Bend. The new wheels and tires finally on and they were much better than the others!

Forgestar 19x10 w/Bridgestone RE-11, 275-30's and 19x11 w/Bridgestone RE-11, 305-30's.

I am not sure how I did as I got side-tracked when they gave out the awards. This event was not by Optima, but Optima Batteries selected 1 person for "The Spirit of the Event" and they gave that to me! Since all of these OUSCI events this year are televised on MAVTV (Motor State was not), I get to attend the Michigan race next month and then the final 2014 OUSCI event in November!

Gingerman Raceway;

EuroToys,

Congrats on the purchase and fun on the track! I took my BS on the track last June and it was phenomenal. I wanted to run a track day once with the stock setup to have a baseline on what to improve moving forward. I definitly will need a set of track tires and bushing upgrades.

Look forward to your updates as you continue to progress with your car!

Cheers!

I totally agree with you on seeing what the car will do in its stock form. A lot of people on here say the first thing you should do is replace all of the rear bushings. I would rather see what the car can do and then do the upgrade so I can see the difference. After feeling the car with good tires, I will look into adding the K-Mac adjustable bushings. I think that is a better choice over adjustable arms & delrin bushings, IMO.

Right no I am adding the throttle blip and hopefully some new brake rotors before the next race in 2.5 weeks. While I have the valve body off of the transmission, I will look into improving that as well.
