I'm 30, and just picked up a 218. It just came down to what 4dr sedans were available in the various price ranges: The S and 7series for me are a bit 'old', new M5 I would have waited for, but no AWD and didn't want a regular 5.. A7 i liked, but liked the CLS better. For those that want a 4dr sedan, but the looks of a sports car, it works out great.

Fortunately, the CLS has the option of 4MATIC AWD, so it can be configured either as RWD or AWD.

I am 34, and that is exactly the same thought process I had. I think the new S7 should be interesting, and had it been out in January when I bought my CLS, I would have considered it. Before I settled on a 4dr, I also strongly considered the 650i x-drive, but its rear seat is really only usable in a pinch.

oh, thought you were refering to the cls63 (which is RWD only) vs the m5.

Mainly - Understood. I actually would have preferred the CLS63, but chose not to due to no AWD... Being in Chicago, AWD was a priority.

Ohji - I agree, the S7 could be really interesting, but sometimes timing becomes an issue! I didn't look at any SUVs, as I had just bought my wife a RRS. Before she got the SUV, I was thinking pretty hard about a G550, but we didn't want to own 2 SUVs.

I guess I'm one of the younger ones on the forum with a C219. I'm 24 now, but I was actually 22 when I bought the car. It's sporty and classy at the same time and that was the look I was going for. It's definitely a hit with the younger crowd, but I certainly don't see many younger people driving it...assuming thats mostly due to the cost. It was either the CLS or a BMW 6 Series for me and I'm more than glad that I went with the CLS.

Man, you must have started selling drugs at a young age! All kidding aside, I'm younger than 22 (still in college) and hope to be able to afford a 218 CLS550 in my 20s. I think it's the perfect combination of aggression and sophistication.

I'm 65 and agree 100% with your description of the 218 as the "perfect combination of agression and sophistication."
