unused button

what do you think the unused button next to the command controller is for?

......or what do we wish it were.

I wish it were a volume control. I loved the ability to manipulate the music choice & adjust volume in the same area like I used to on my S.

I'll take a look at mine to see what you are referring to, but first to come to mind, is a button only used on the AMG

Just popped in to check it out, pic is below. I have a amount of options, so it's either an unusual option or AMG only.

The CLS63 AMG has a completely different center console, the gear selector is there and layout is completely different.

The manual shows it as blank, so it's just unused space.

Looks better for symmetry I would think. I know what I'm going to use it for...

It must be for some type of unusual option. Foe example, on my 911 C2S, my car had all the sport options, other than the Porsche Sport exhaust. On my console was a blank button and once Porsche installed the exhaust, that button became the on / off button for the system.

Can you buy a working single button for that slot? It would be a great place to put the mute button on a custom radar detector install.

i have a feeling it might have been for an ECO button. however, mercedes decided that auto start stop shouldn't be included in our car so maybe they took the button off.

I think it must be for favorite button assignment , the newest MLs come with that button but most MB models don't
It's a star figure on it .

The E and S are standard; however, the M comes with the Wheel Package for around $700 dollars. I havent used it since I just got the car yesterday! Nevertheless, I told the dealer that the wheel package was a must.

Yes, the M is for manual. The only difference other than the wheels in the package is that the steering wheel gets small paddle shifters. I was surprised that MB did not make the manual feature a standard, since it was in my R-Class too.

I have paddle shifters on the steering wheel, you just use them to switch to manual

that works too, but the shifting time may be slower than the M mode. Manual mode gives the harshest shifts for our car.

Thats interesting. I guess then there really was no reason for adding the M mode button. I was going to say that the manual mode was activated by pressing on the paddle shifters in my R class.

I don't have a C218 but based on research and a few different test drives, the M mode requires you to use paddles to change gears. Whereas in the other modes, you can use the paddles but the car's computer will eventually takeover and change gears for you as it thinks best.

Does anyone have any instructions on how to dismantle the console in order to be able to route wiring to that unused button? As has been suggested here, I would like to put a mute button for my Valentine One here.

Thanks in advance!
