I recently bought a CLS550 2014 WITHOUT DISTRONIC. During my shopping around, I was not able to compare the 2013 model with the 2014 one. Every sales said they're all same. When I googled it online, they list a few difference including COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST as a standard for the 2014 model. I do see the warning triangle sign on the dash board but it has never warned me so far. I have a 2012 E couple with the DISTRONIC so I am familiar with how the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST works.
My question is: Dose the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST function come without DISTRONIC since it says it is standard on 2014? Is that true that COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST now works by the sensor on top of the windshield?
Thanks for all the input!

I had the same question earlier on regarding Collision Prevention Assist but I heard from MBUSA that it would not be standard on the 2014 CLS550. If you look at the MBUSA website, CPA is not highlighted as one of the safety features for the 2014 so it makes me think it really is not provided as standard on the 2014,

The difference is just in command system. From 2014 in EU all cars must be able to call for help while you had any accident or colision. It is connected to telemetric system to know when you had the colision or accident.Originally Posted by WillXu

I think the OP was talking about CPA rather than a telemetric system. CPA is a radar based forward looking system that alerts the driver via sound or flashing lights etc in the instrument panel when the cars computer assesses that the rate of closure with some object ahead is too fast and could result in a collision. The OP's reference to Distronic is a further development of the CPA radar system which, together with brakes, allows the car to brake itself if the driver does not react in time. Different from telemetrics I suspect.
