Blackout Trim Questions

MB World,

I'm thinking of blacking out all the chrome trim on my Obsidian Blk w218 (grill, window trim, trunk, door handles) and had a few questions:
- I've seen people paint and people wrap, what are the pros and cons of each?
- For color should it be a flat black or a matched obsidian metallic?
- Best place to get it done - dealer or independent?
- What is the expected cost?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi Mark,

Nice mod, these cars look great blacked out. The nice thing about wrap is that it's reversible vs paint is not. I would have to say to go matte black which adds contrast against your paint color. You can order the vinyl online for 30-50 bucks or pay someone about 200 bucks to do the door trim and rear chrome trunk piece. As far as wrapping the grill, I'm not sure if they will be able to do that because you have to pull the whole bumper off the car to get the grill out (yes it's a bummer). I personally had the grey parts of my grill painted to match and then went matte plasti dip on the rest of the chrome. Lastly the door handles - the guy i checked with out here who does wrapping said he won't wrap handles because they are high usage areas. Please let me know if you hear otherwise of have other good ideas!
