Cool Road Noise Abatement

Has anyone attempted to decrease road (tire) noise? What did you try and how did it work? I changed from the OEMs to Bridgestone S-04s (19") which has helped some but I still think the car is noisier than a ~$90k car should be. I think the noise levels shouldn't be so road surface dependent. Not a big complaint just interested in what has been tried. Thanks.

I'm running on the OEM 18 inch Conti all seasons and they are noisy when the tires are cold. They get better warmed up. Assuming I stay with all seasons, I might try Mich Pilot Sport A/S3. But if I take nails or get a puncture, I might have to stay with the OEM Contis cos I got the wheel and tire protection package from MB Financial for the next 5 years.

I totally agree with this statement.....way to much road noise for a $90k + vehicle. Changing out the tires will help reduce the noise a bit but what I think is needed to really dampen the cabin noise is to dynamat the floor panel and doors. I'm still running my 19" pirelli p-zeros.....quite a bit of road noise transfer into the cabin. I'm curious to see what others have to say about this.

Hear many complaints about the Pirelli P Zeros. My 18 inch all season Contis will be tested today - taking a road trip amidst the rain/snow storm. Slipped a little in the wet when I opened the throttle suddenly on wet roads to beat an amber light yesterday so I guess I will have to drive like a grandma to manage the torque. Will report back after the trip.

U can get the quietest tires in the world and it'll only help a little. Fact is the car itself is just not built properly to fight noise intrusion. I've been in cars a fifth the price of my CLS with less noise intrusion - wind, road, etc. it just has really poor sound dampening especially for a car this expensive.

Reporting back on the 18 inch Conti Pro Contacts after a 400 mile plus road trip. I'm OK with them once they warm up. But they are noisy when cold.

I too am battling with Mercedes on this agonizing road noise in my 2014 CLS. Changed tires and no help. Different road surfaces create much different hollow grinding road noises. My 7th Benz and I couldn't be more disappointed.

my thoughts exactly. i've owned over 20 cars and this is my most disappointing car (see my post above). not only is the noise unacceptably loud for a car this expensive, the ride quality is seriously lacking. the suspension is unsettled with small road imperfections. driving over small potholes rattles the car (i've already bent a rim a popped a tire) whereas my other cars over the exact same roads have no problem. yes - this is in the comfort suspension setting. i'm convinced that there's a design/engineering flaw in the chassis. the car has kit-car level noise dampening/ride quality.
