Any quick DIY advice on how to install these? I just bought a similar set on Ebay and started to do a search on how to install. Seen some posts that say you get there from behind the liner in the wheel well (ie - take tire off, take a couple fasteners to get your hand behind the liner). Also seen posts that said you can just pop the entire assembly out from the front being careful as you pry the cover out. Thx,Will

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY WITHOUT ALSO HAVING ACCESS FROM BEHIND. I tried and it comes out partially, then gets stuck. Having access from behind allows you to work it from both sides, making it very easy to disassemble the original and reassemble the new housing.

Here's what I did....When working on the drivers side marker, I turned the wheels to full right. Then did the reverse to work on the other side. You will have plenty of room. No need to take the tires off.

The below is all drivers side:

I used plastic KTC tools to remove the tire well fasteners as well as to pop out the tire well liner.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KTC-4-pcs-Auto-Car-Fastener-Upholstery-Trim-Door-Panel-Handy-Remover-Set-NEW-/181059011324?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2a27f542fc&vxp=mtr

Remove the two round black fasteners inside the tire well wall. (They look like a black nail head pushed into a black round washer. First remove the inner pin. Then remove the 'washer anchor'.) One is situated higher than the marker and the other below the marker. I also removed one from the underside of the tire well assembly. (While facing the rear of the vehicle, if you place your left palm onto the front of the tire well, fingers facing down, and then slide your hand down until your fingers can grab the bottom of the tire well.....move your hand/fingers away from you towards the car going deeper into the tire well. You will eventually feel another round fastener. It goes up into the tire well assemble from the under belly of the car.)

Next, carefully pop out the tire well casing at the bottom corner of the tire well. I do not recommend using anything metal. Again I used the plastic tools in the above link.

Continue to pry it out until it is about even with the marker. Slide your hand in until you feel the rear of the marker casing.

Next, remove your hand and begin to carefully pry off the marker from the outside.

Note: is this the marker that you are looking to install?

If so, it is a virtual copy of the OEM marker being removed. Studying it will serve to assist you in how to best understand how to remove the original.

Place your left hands fingers onto center and right fingers onto the right side of the marker exterior cover, press and slide firmly to the left. Once you see the 3 tabs appear (They're shown in the above rear view and are located along the outer edge of the outer clear case cover.) ....you can then jiggle and pry and pull the marker from its bottom away from the vehicle. I however, could not get it out completely.

So, I went in behind the marker and popped open the 'latch' that locks the clear cover. I jiggled with it some more, and was able to twist out the bulb and its housing. Eventually, I was able to 'unhook' the clear cover hinge completely. Again, study the unit and you'll understand better what I mean by 'unhook'. The outer clear casing cover 'hooks' onto the rear housing unit, creating a hinge affect allowing it to swing open and closed.

With the cover removed, the rear housing can now easily be fed out through the mounting hole.

Installation is a breeze.

Place the rear housing into the mounting hole.

Run the bulb & socket wiring to the rear casing and twist / lock socket into place.

While holding the rear casing from behind with your right hand. At the same time while working from outside the mounting hole and using your left hand, 'hook' the clear marker cover onto the rear casing creating the door hinge.

Next, slide your right hands fingers to the front of the rear casing to support it as you (using your left hand) push the clear cover in from the outside at its front to set the 'latch' in place.

You should be good to go.

A lot of this is trial and error. Rule of thumb though, if something is not cooperating, back away and go another route. It will eventually come free. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORCE ANYTHING! You're working with fragile plastic.

Hope this helped and more importantly makes sense! Apologies for being long winded.

ps- if you have large hands you may want to have this done at the shop!

pps - I have a Lorinser front bumper and am not 100% certain that the tire well fastener clips are located in the same place as with an OEM front.

Hey, looks great. Did you buy these from 'fishcake' on ebay. Looks like the same pictures in his listing. I just ordered them this week and plan to put them on soon. Thanks

quick question

i made this change on my 2012 E class a while ago.. i notice on my CLS the difference is that rather than the side marker having a "lip" that sits over the body around the entire light, it seems the cls sits flush with the body, almost like it's recessed rather than "sitting on" the body.. anyone else notice this? (there's a video on youtube showing what i mean.. and also showing how the E class light is removed. you'll notice in the video that because the E class light "sits" on the body, during the removal of the light the person broke off the bottom right corner of the light)

as such, how do you "slide" the light to the left if its slightly recessed on the CLS?

i'd love to change my side markers to clear but i had such a heck of time on the E class that i'm worried i might screw things up on the CLS..

has anyone else attempted to do this install? any other suggestions?

thanks im4umia for the instructions!

Here is a video on how to do the swap.

You'll notice he removed the cover first...meaning the entire casing does not come out in one piece.

Second, note that the OEM markers are NOT flush mounted.....although the vehicle is a 2010.

This is not a difficult mod. Just take your time and trust that you'll figure it out as you go.

If you are reasonably careful, the only thing you'll damage is your hand. It's tight behind the tire well!!
