Need advice please. CLS550 or CLS63 AMG...>
Gents,
I'm all over the place and driving myself crazy.
I love the look of the CLS in general. I have a 911 and now want a super coupe but cant decide.
I have looked at the S7 Audi and like it ok but don't love it. I have looked at the BMW Gran Coupes and damn are they overpriced. 95k for the non M version. The M^ GC is a monster and I was so close to getting it and still may.
But I say to myself get the regular CLS550 with 402 hp, its still beautiful, plenty of power and I can get it for $72k plus tax. Hell of a deal right. But I have worked hard and 25k at this point in my life is not a deal breaker.
So do I step up to the CLS63 AMG which is a rocket and stunning at the same time. Do I get the M6 GC which is a rocket and gorgeous too.?? I just cant decide. I know its subjective. The M6 GC with no options (which is fine as its loaded) is about $110k as I have read on forums. The CLS AMG is about $100k plus tax.
So CLS63 and M6 are about the same price give or take.
Any thoughts for me on my dilemma?
Appreciate any insights. Thanks,

About 12 months ago I was deciding between the 650 GC and the cls550. I will admit I would have chosen the GC if solely based on looks. Behind the wheel there is no comparison , Merc takes the cake. The m6 is priced higher up the ladder but very striking and released for sale later than the CLS making it newer to the public eye
The cls550 is a biturbo and has plenty of room for improvement under the hood. Renntech can bring it up to 530hp with a regular stage1 tune, matching stock cls63 AMG numbers. This would be a good route if saving money was your objective. My lease is coming to an end shortly and I've found myself leaning towards the cls63 despite driving this body style for almost 2years.
I think you will be most happy with the cls63 S AMG
I took the new m6 coupe for a test drive and it was quick as a bat out of hell but it lacked a sense sophistication found in the cls. I used to drive the previous body-style m6 and that car too was missing something for an 100k+ sticker. However, I have a few friends who are very happy with the new m6. You've worked hard to get to this stage in your life, ultimately you must get what will put a smile on your face every time you walk into your garage.
Good Luck with your purchase on whatever you decide

^^^ OP,
You've answered your own questions/concerns based on what I highlighted above. You want a super coupe. The CLS63 AMG is the Super Coupe in the CLS line up.
If $25k is no big deal, step up to the AMG. It's what you want, right?
Don't compromise b/c you'll regret purchasing the CLS 550 over the AMG, if you in fact don't step up to the AMG...
In my case, I chose the CLS 550 over the AMG b/c I already have my rocket in the C63 AMG Edition 507. I wanted my CLS to be my cruiser. Btw the two, the CLS63 AMG is the Mac Daddy! Go for it!
Look for a future comparo of my two MBs. I need to put a few miles on the CLS to draw a fair comparo. This may address some of your questions/concerns.

911S/CLS550
I also have a 2006 911S and purchased a CLS 550 in March. I am really satisfied with the CLS. It has PLENTY of power. It is always a tossup as which one to drive. At this point the CLS is winning out.
Thanks Gents for the insights...couple of thoughts>>
Really appreciate the comments.
I have a 997.2 GT3 which is my weekend car so this will def be daily driver. Yes I want super coupe for sure and well said that I might regret getting the CLS550 instead of the AMG CLS63, which is a beast. And since $25k
One day I log on and look at pics of the M6 GC (need 4 doors) not the regular M6 and I fall in love. Then I look at pics of the CLS in both iterations and even the "base" CLS550 is just gorgeous. And forget about the CLS63 AMG in matte silver, wow, it just looks mean and spectacular at the same time and the engine is crazy scary powerful
Seeing as life is short as we all say, I'm going all in and getting a "super coupe"
Decisions, decisions...I am now down to the CLSAMG (non S) and the BMW M6 GC.
I get this is a MB forum and that's fine. I like insights from the guys who know these cars.
The price points are within 8k of each other so no issue with price.
The power is similar but the CLS has 4matic and the power to all 4 wheels is an advantage. Not only on speed but in general, rain, etc.
Exterior is a tie to me. Both are stunning and I would tire of looking at either in my garage.
The interior is a different story. Subjective of course but the M6 feel more updated and modern while the CLS feels more old Benz and classic.
Residual values I am not an expert on but have heard AMG do not hold their value very well. Not sure on the M6. In any case I hold cars at least 5 years and buy right the first time so I don't need the latest and greatest out there.
First world problems to be sure. I am no closer to making a decision and want to order the car in early June to have mid summer.
Any other things I left out?
Thanks again for the thoughts and comments.

If as you stated, $$ difference is not a big issue, then get the AMG over the CLS550.
I was in the same boat and I decided to get the CLS because of the matte paint.
You are correct that the interior of the GC is overall superior to the CLS but there is a facelift inside and out coming for 2015.
The Matte paint is very easy to take care off and just makes the CLS so much special.
With a simple tune, it becomes truly amazing and spanking supercars (gallardos, R8V10GT, 991TT to name a few) on the highway is so much fun. I think the M6 tuned will be similar but the CLS has the edge with the larger engine (5.5 versus 4.4)
Final thought is I had seat time in a new matte black RS7 and I must say the interior was the best of the 3 (felt like a Lambo) and looked very special (carbon everywhere outside). The price was the only thing I did not like lol, around 125K.

Are you talking about designo magno alanite gray paint?
Ugh, I did read a minor refresh for 2015 cls550. I wonder if interior will be entirely revamped?
BTW,
Is this the matt color you got on your cls550? If so how much is this option? I do like the matt colors on the cls.
Also is this like the frozen BMW paints? meaning you cant wax or buff it and need to treat it with special products?
thanks,

Matt colors are striking but very difficult to maintain let alone repair. It would not work in our salt infested roads in eastern Ontario.

Interior is minor change with a larger screen ala CLA.
My CLS63 is matte alanite. It was a 4K option.
It is true you cannot wax and buff but in my book that is a plus (less work). All you do is use a regular shampoo and then use a special spray with a micro towel. Very easy.
Repairing it is an issue but have not had to deal with that yet. I do have a few nicks already after a year but nothing different than on a regular paint job ie I would not fix them.
I live in Florida by the water and salt is not an issue.
