Help me decide 2014 CLS550 vs 2015 CLS550

Hello all. I have just joined the forum and I am looking for advice.

I will purchase a CLS550 soon but I am trying to decide if I should go for the 2014 or the 2015. I have compared the two but I am now looking for real-world, owner's advice and

experience.

For owners of the 2014 CLS550, I would like to know if there are any features and/or benefits on the 2015 that you wish your 2014 had?

And for owners of the 2015 CLS550 (especially those who were in the same situation as me and were considering a 2014), are there any features and/or benefits on the 2015 that

convinced you to get it instead of the 2014?

Any other suggestions, recommendations or advice?

Please advise.

in advance, thank you to all.

I had a '14 CLS550 and loved it. I am getting a '16 CLS400 in October so would have better idea of differences then... Anyway, I seem to prefer the styling of the '14 over the facelift '15, where the '15 has the new corporate look front end that is similar to the CLA, C, E and S class. For me the '14 has more classic lines and a slightly more aggressive look. I believe the only other big difference is the floating tablet display in the '15 which I could do with or without.

So for me its just a styling preference for the '14. So if there was a money savings with the '14 (which there should be) I would definitely go '14. When the '15 came out there wasn't anything from that I wished my '14 had.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Naturally as an owner of 2014 CLS, I prefer that version. Having said that and assuming you're considering a new left over 2014 (there are still some), 2014 (assuming you can still can find one in exact colors and options that you want/need) should be significantly less priced than 2015 (550s of course) - IMO its an additional incentive getting it over 2015 face lift.

I agree that its mostly a preference in styling. Furthermore, the significantly lower price of the 2014 is a great incentive.

When I first started my comparison the looks of the 2014 were my preference (especially considering the 2015 does indeed resemble the CLA a little too much). However the facelift of the 2015 has grown on me.

Nevertheless, there are some small details that differentiate the two, and I'd like to know your opinions.

I will start out with a few of the differences (this should help other potential buyers in-case they had not noticed some of these). Again, these are small differences but details count :-)

On left 2014, on right 2015. On the steering wheel, I prefer the button layout of the 2014. Is the 2015 button layout more ergonomically efficent?

Also, just to clarify my dilemma....
Although I prefer the pricing and styling features of the 2014, I am very much attracted to the updated COMAND infotainment that comes with the 2015, as well as new features such as 360 degree view displayed with backup camera, 9-speed transmission, etc, etc

its hard for me to decide :-/

2014

2015

For the radio, I prefer the "raised" button look of the 2014, than the flat buttons on the 2015. What are your preferences and why?

What's more important to you: styling and significant price advantage of 2014 or 360 degree surround view of 2015? (9speed vs. 7speed, is it really that significant?). Only you can answer those questions.

thank you for responding threeMBs.

ive been researching for over 6 months now (I take my time with such decisions) and I am getting very close to a choice. For now it looks like the 2015.

still hoping to get feedback and reviews from members with their experiences.

Probably not Dash, but if you can find a 2015 sometimes they have the old ones.

Headlights are not plug and play. The 2015+ headlights work differently and need to be coded accordingly. Not sure where you're located but if you're after a CLS400 in the US, you can find some with the old headlights, but they tend not to be well optioned vehicles. I also do not believe a 2015+ CLS550 comes with the old headlights, I believe all 550's around the world had them standard.
