If you've been there-done that, please advise

I'm at a decision point and I'm trying to avoid knowing exactly what I should have done almost immediately after making a decision.

The car - I currently have an'08 CLS 550 AMG Diamond White Edition which is a "1 in 550" model MB offered for an additional $9k. It is basically a standard issue 550 with an AMG tuned suspension, AMG Sport Package 18" wheels, AMG facia/diffuser that differs from the "standard" 550, and a 705 watt Bang & Olfsen stereo. It has 55K miles on it. I call it "The (AMG) Poser".

The person - I am an executive, 56 years old and would like to participate in the current horsepower Renaissance but don't necessarily want to be that "gold chain" car owner so I think the CLS is my ticket.

The question - I am wanting bigger brakes, that leads to new wheels, already have adjustable links (I think that's what they are called - they are adjustable to trick the ECU air ride height) and I want more power. I see three options: invest in the current car, upgrade to a 2012+ 550 to tweak the turbo motor and make the aftermarket brake/rotor/wheel upgrades, or just move to a CLS63?

I see a lot of info on doing all three on this site - I'd like to get some perspective on pros/cons of going aftermarket/RENNtech or just going OEM/CLS63. If you respond, please don't simply say do "X". Looking for data I can transform into knowledge BEFORE I act.

Thanks in advance!!!

My opinion get the w218 cls63 and be done with it. The cls63 is all you will probably need satsify your hunger for power and speed performance. I dont know about the handling suspension but i hear the 0-60 times of the w218 cls550 is comparable to the w219 cls63.

Great article from CarBuzz.....
"An E63 AMG offers all the comfort a boomer needs to ride free of back pain but it still packs a weapon of mass destruction under the hood."

They already make the car you want, it's the CLS63. With a greater supply, you'll likely have more options and will end up with a better car/price. Also, I believe the CLS63 has entirely different sheetmetal from the CLS550. Compare the hood for fender for example.
