Trying to figure out how to update the maps and if its CD driven or needs Dealer to update it ... also is there a secondary market for current maps CD's (if that is what it is using)?

Nav info is on the internal hard drive. You need to do the upgrade through a dealer. Did my 2012 CLS last summer.

You need to get this done at a dealership or a shop that has an account with daimler. Its not as simple as buying a disc anymore, you have to also get a pin from daimler that will activate the map, this is for anti piracy purposes. The pin is unique and is calculated using your vin number.

Looks like the map update was on sale when I did it. $229 total: $185 for the map and $44 for labor. That was back in March 2016 on a 2012 CLS550.
