2016 CLS - necessary to remove door panel to replace door pins?

Is it still necessary to remove the door panel to take out the rear door pins? I can't believe they use such cheap plastic door pin in such a expensive car.

The fronts screw off, while the rear pins pop out. Rear pins are shorter then front ones so buy the correct replacement. It is not mandatory to remove the door panels but makes it easier at least for the rear pins. Removing the doors panels is pretty easy on this car, here is a helpful video.

Umm...I see about a half-dozen places where I could really screw that up. But, the video is interesting and I'm sure a lot of people could follow it with good results. Thanks.

A number of websites state that the front pins unscrew while the back pins are simply pulled off with new ones pushed back in. Is it really necessary to remove the rear door panels for what seems like such an easy mod?

You dont have to take the door panels off but I would recommend it for the rear doors because popping those pins off is not always easy and its possible that the pin will come out in pieces. Very easy to remove the panels anyways, takes less then 5 minutes after your first removal.
