If the drone inside the cabin is horrid then I'll just reinstall the resonator. But the way I see it is if my buddy cut the resenator off of his Dodge Hell Cat and has little to no drone the Mercedes should easily have twice the insulation and sound proofing prohibiting extreme outside noises. But one thing is for sure.... we will see how it goes in a few hours LOL!
No drone---but hot rod loud on heavy throttle at low RPM--maybe up to 3K RPM. But that's only if you really hit it hard

I took the resonator out and have an X-pipe there now. Just went with exhaust cutouts as well and I run them wide open all the time. Car is loud under load but still refined with a little aggressive growl when not. No drone and you can still talk on the phone in the cabin with no issues.

if you're thinking about it, do it.

I'm thinking about getting a little more sound out of my CLS550 also. I thought I read that removing the mufflers was a better option for aggressive sound and leaving the resonators alone to keep the drone down. Seems folks are really enjoying removing only the resonators.

If you’re still around, what brand of cutouts did you go with? Part numbers? Any regrets?

2-3 years ago, center large resonator and two small forward bullet resonators removed. Xpipe installed as far forward as possible and straight pipes after that. I am pretty sure that I posted a pic. Everything else OEM.
Not loud, could be louder. No drone. None.

I’ve read that replacing the resonator with a cross pipe improves the burble at idle outside the car, but isn’t as loud as straight pipes.

Also the two small bulbs in the exhaust forwad of the resonator are secondary cats and there seems to be no consensus on whether removing those improves sound much.

This would be the sound with a muffler delete only (not my car) really brings the turbos out.

Now if I can find a video of a muffler plus res. Delete
