Anyone remove these plastic pieces blocking the intake path?
I noticed these blocking the intake on my 2016 CLS 550 4Matic the other day. Of course air can still get in, but it has to go around these pieces of plastic. I notice that photos of the AMG don't have these, in fact, most photos of CLS engines I've found don't have these things. Does yours? I believe this photo is a CLS 400 v6. I can't imagine they hurt or help much but has anyone else removed them? Without them, the intake has a clear path from the grill into the air inlets... effectively a CAI.

That might be it, but there are several models of Mercedes with identical intake designs without these pieces. The CLS63 for example. I’ll have to head over to that forum and see how many folks are suffering from Hydrolock damage after driving in the rain without these pieces

My brother's 2014 cls550 had them. My 2012 cls63 does not, and I am pretty sure no amg biturbo has them, so I would think its safe to remove unless you are worried about some crazy oncoming puddle splash. The new 4 liter biturbos don't have any block either. Must a been a lapse of judgement at mercedes when they installed those, or an optional add on for heavy rain environments. Either way those pieces are a huge restriction on air intake.
