sound proofing trunk
I am trying to kill some of the road and exhaust noise I believe primarily is coming from my trunk (2104 CLS 550). A year ago I did the resonator delete mod--but still think it's a bit to loud. Inspired by "Virtual Rain's" project (attached image) who sought to do the same thing (see photo)--------I installed the Noico film yesterday. BUT--I don't think it dampened the sound at all.
Wondering what other measures I can take to isolate the sound to the trunk. I am imagining having a custom cover / trunk liner made to just lay over the trunk floor--OR--even applying a sound barrier to the backs of the fold down
rear seats (somehow)
Looking for ideas--photos--direction from others who have attempted this. Sent a PM to Virtual Rain--but no reply--maybe he sold his ride--not sure
THANKS !!!
In my E400, I simply lined the spare tire well with fiberglass insulation such as the pink fluffy stuff they put inside walls of buildings. I took out the spare tire and laid down a layer of the stuff, covering the entire floor and sides. I then put the tire back into place and put another layer of insulation over the tire. Then I just closed the floor panel over the whole mess. This made a HUGE difference, greatly reducing the exhaust and road noise entering the cabin.
