Replaced command unit now anti theft message

So after my command unit stopped working I went to dealer to have diagnose service tech said that I need new command unit and actually recommended me to buy it used off eBay instead of dropping 4-5 k on a new one. So I found one 300 bux same year same car and had it installed and after it was installed I see a message “anti theft activated please service” so the installer told me to take to dealer to have them code it. Problem is when I called the dealer they don’t think it could be done and the guy actually said there’s “10%” chance it would work if I have old vin which I do. Now I am waiting on a different dealer that I heard could do it so we will see, I’m wondering if anyone knows how to solve this issue without going to the dealer or knows if I’m out of luck on this or not. I can’t see the service tech recommending to do that if it can’t be done. Any input is appreciated
thanks

Thanks for the great info and the place I bought the unit from said he didn’t receive a code and after I took it too the 3rd dealer they said I’m goin to have to drop off Tuesday all day and they are going to try and reset it somehow ..... my problem is idk why the technician from the dealer told me to go that route and buy a used one if they couldn’t do the swap ?!?! If I would if known I would of found an aftermarket option to begin with which i was trying to avoid but long story short It looks like there’s a small chance they can get it done. So does anyone know how to somehow get this working if not does anyone have any good experience with an aftermarket unit they can recommend, thanks !

Update : Well I went to the third dealer who agreed to try and they got it working. So I’m ecstatic that they got it to work without the original pin from the replacement vehicle.
