2014 CLS550 OETuning tuned

Hey guys! And gals! So I just wanted to post about my car. Recently I saw that OETuning posted a sale for their stage 1 tune with the MyGenius thing for $900 shipped. I've been sitting on my CLS for a long while just stock. But for $900, I figured, let me enjoy this car some and just get that tune. So, I sprung for it. They shipped super fast. I literally got the package this afternoon. So, I had been reading other tuners and their turnaround times were 24 to 48 hours for getting the tune built up based off that file the mygenius pulls. I called OETuning and they said just send them the file, they'll have it back in 2 hours! Sure as heck, less than 2 hours later, I had 3 files they sent over for me. They also gave me some instructions in the email on how to flash the tune to the car. Well, it worked without a hitch. I flashed the 93 octane tune they made which should be 500hp and 580 ft lbs, I believe.

Anyway, the tune is awesome! It really feels great. Cruising is normal, but hitting the gas pedal is a huge difference. Even the gradual pushing of the gas pedal has a big difference. It is a lot more powerful. I want to go dyno my car sometime soon I hope. But I am super happy with these results. Before the tune, the car was out of breath once rpms started climbing. It doesnt feel that way anymore. It's a lot more responsive. I'm really glad I went with their tune. Yea you can get more powerful tunes out there, but I think this is the best balance of power and reliability. And the numbers are plenty good for this car. I already have trouble hooking up(RWD). Anything much more and it would be wasted power and wear and tear. Well worth the $900!

Congrats Jason. Sounds like you are happy and thats the way it should be. Marv is really happy with his tune as well. I considered OE but ultimately went w EC. Mine is 4matic so i'll take the power. Mine pulls like a beast too. Definitely driveable and normal when I want it to be but if I hit the gas pedal she responds immediately. I also added the burble tune to mine. I can make it happen on demand if I drive the car in Manual mode. If in auto then it only burbles when in P, LoL. Car shifts too soon to really notice the burble when I don't control the shift points myself.

Sounds like you got some good turn around times from OE. I feel the same way about EC but not quite as fast as yours. Glad the tuners for us on these forums are coming through. It's a fun way to add enjoyment to our cars.

I considered the EC tune, but then I saw OE had the sale and so I jumped on it. How did you get the burble on yours? Did you request it as part of the tune or did it come automatically? Do you have exhaust work too?

I might do some exhaust work later on and see what OE can do for more power. If I did though, it would be for rolling runs. Off the line, I know I'd have trouble.

I have the same tune on my CLS and have my secondary cats and resonators removed and there are some pops/crackles depending on what gear and rpm range you are in. The extra burble is not part of the tune though and would have to be requested, and then they will send you a tune file that includes the burble.

Thanks Delbert! How does your car sound with the secondary cat and resonator delete? I planned on doing it soon. Is it too loud? Regrets?

i purchased 2 tunes when I ordered. A stage 1 tune and a stage 1 tune w burble. I had to pay extra for the burble. I figured if I didn’t like it I would just swap it out w the non burble. But so far I love it. I have not done any exhaust work on my car. NJ is very strict w emissions and so I don’t want to deal w any issues.

Nice! You got your tune from OE?

Side note-I raced a 392 Charger this morning. I easily won which surprised me. I thought it was going to be a little harder but it wasn't. My brother has a Daytona 392 Charger(2018) and we raced when I was stock and he walked away from me all the time. He dyno'd his car and the sheet said 444hp to wheels and I think 468ft of torque to the wheels. This OE Tune makes me happier by the day.

@SALES@OETUNING

My experience with OETune was just "OK" I'm somewhat neutral I not over the top happy but it's okay for the price I paid. My biggest issue is the throttle respond you should except too much out of it which can okay and a reason to buy their tune. Prior to OEtune, I bought a power Commander and a racechip which didn't make a noticeable difference. So that's why I started looking into ECU tunes and selected the OEtune the for below 3 reaaons.

1- the price was cheaper than everyone else.
2- less stress on the engine and the transmission
3- the choice to select your insulation device. Android OBD2 or the bolkey MyGenius.

That said, I waited for the of the year sale and I bought their tune service around the Black Friday time frame. When I contacted them regarding the order I made sure that I listed in my email that I am selecting the Android OBD2 for my order. When I made the payment and the invoice they sent me there was no way to select the Android device. so I emailed them to confirm that my order will come when the Android device and for them to confirm that. They responded to my email and "Thanks for your order Samuel. Your order will ship out Monday with instructions." I didn't think the response was clear enough so I emailed them again and said "Thanks and to confirm it the OBD2 Android option. The invoice is incorrect" they responded and said " If you need to update your shipping details as they are incorrect, please let us know prior to shipping out Monday." But they already shipped it in Saturday so I was like okay let's see what I get in the mail. Fast forward a week later, I got the ,🥁🥁🥁🥁MyGenius in the mail, I was disappointed but then I was like whatever just let us do it and keep it moving. However, the MyGenius had an error and refused to read the car. So I contacted them and requested they correct the issue. They agree to replace MyGenius and mail me the Android device. It took him another week but the Android device arrived and we ran into several issues way to programming was not correct on their side so they have to reach out to the manufacturer of the Android device. To be specific it was reading the vehicle as a different vehicle and it will not allow ECU do you recognized. Long story short I took on 48 hours to get back to me and we finally were able to read the vehicle and load the tune the next day.
After after loading the tune in a vehicle I contacted them few days later and I asked about the burble tune. When I originally paid for my tune I requested that I have a burble tune in addition to the normal stage 1 tune they said that it will be an additional $100 to add that file which I paid for. I only received the stage one, which only burble or pops during downshifts from like 3rd to 2nd hear when I'm a manual mode or every now and then you will hear a pop in higher gears which I'm okay with but I would like to have the option to be able to have more popping if I wanted to. So, I contacted them regarding the files they sent me and asked if forgot to add the tune file, they responded with a somewhat contradictory respond, they said " All tuned maps have exhaust popping added (valet does not and is speed limited to 20km/h)" so I decided to let it go and decided to give it a chance and see how it goes.

So I drove the car for another week and emailed them the following week and said

"Thanks for the tune files. I have only tried the main tune file but I have few questions.

1-I'm noticing a different in the torque aspect of the tune! It's almost like adding a peddle commander. Can you please check the tune file and ensure that nothing is missing?

2-My muffler will only pop when I'm using paddle shifter but not in automatic mode? Why is that ?

3-Can you make a separate tune files one with pop and one without AND that it works in automatic?

I have no way of getting or ever using 100 octine fuel, can it be adjusted to be used with 93? And what's the difference between this file and the main tune file?"

👆 I sent that email on December 6th and yet to hear back from them. I'm blaming them so sometimes things get thrown under the rug and specially when there's so many people on the main email which I assume that's the case. I am in the military and my job consist of a lot of deployments on short terms so I leave the country and I come back a lot I have not been around all month and I just returned a few days ago for Christmas, so I did not follow up with them past that email and they did not respond to me after work so it's mainly both of our faults I guess????!!!

The main point of my review is that I believe something is not correct with the two and I have because it seems that everyone else is happy with what they received but I'm not noticing a different. in fact the first time I noticed any kind of difference with this vehicle was yesterday when I add it the Mercedes-Benz house performance package and the A mode. You would think a ECU tune would make a huge difference but I'm not seeing it so it got to be something wrong and that with the request from OCtune to get back to me and see about getting the file adjusted or at least we looked at.

All in all, I'm not sure how I feel about everything and if should be recommending them or not since I believe they failed me! Should they have followed up on the service they provide and or at least got back to me maybe this whole thing could of have been cleared up but I don't think alsoits all on them as failed to follow up with them (although I was the last one to make contact) I will reach out again and see what they can do.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year 🎉 to you all.

Mssidah, sorry for your issues. I will say that I have an EC tune w burble and mine does not burble on auto much either. But in manual mode I can make it happen on demand. I don’t think you are out of the norm there. Just my,opinion. The rest of the stuff hopefully OE sorts out for you.

I have nothing but good to say about OE. When I got my MyGenius, it arrived a day late because FedEx. FedEx sucks btw. But that wasn't OE's fault at all. But I got it on a friday afternoon. I was really worried that I was going to get them the file and have to wait the whole weekend out until monday to get my tuned files back. But, I called OE. They picked right up and told them what FedEx did and I was worried about having to wait the weekend. He told me not to worry, they usually have the tune files back in about 2 hours or so. I got my files back an hour after I sent them. They work fast! I should've requested a burble, but I didnt know that was a thing back then. But it's not OE's fault at all. They gave really good instructions in the box with the MyGenius on how to pull the stock file and how to flash the tuned files. I had not one hiccup in the entire process. I'm not sure how that one guy is not noticing a difference in his car. I have an OBD reader. It live streams data to my phone for boost pressures and all types of stuff. It also records 0-60 times. Legit 0-60. It pulls the speed from the ecu, not GPS or whatever bs some apps do. Last night, in 28 degree weather with cold all seasons that wouldn't grip for anything and my brother in the car, I ran a 4.16 second run on the first run. My traction light kept flashing and cutting power to limit the slip and I still ran that! If I had stickier tires, I know for a fact I would've been sub 4 seconds. These cars heat soak though. Each run kept getting progressively slower. The air intake pipes from the turbos were so hot. I need to figure out how to insulate them or get an intercooler upgrade. But again, none of this is any fault of OE. OE definitely was a big positive for my car and I'm super happy with the tune and the amazing performance I'm getting. I just need better tires(Yokohama advan A/S on now) and either not heat soak the car or invest in upgrades into cooling the intake. Heat soak affects all cars. My V10 S6 would heat soak something horrible after running it hard. I was definitely running the CLS hard last night with back to back full throttle runs to 70. I did about 20 runs back to back. I would expect my stuff to get hotter than usual.

I would recommend 100% OE. If you can't figure out how to flash the ECU and all, maybe just send the ecu in for them to do. Flashing yourself isn't for everyone, just like some maintenance items on a car. I can change my own plugs on this motor, some people can't. Know your limits of what you can/can't do and proceed accordingly.

Mssidah,
I too have the OE tune! I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. Another member here has the OE tune and initially, it didn't "take" on his ECU. After telephone conversations with OE, they decided to re-do the file and now all is well. I would suggest that anyone questioning the tune to call them directly and work out the problems. Sale or no sale, you paid for a tune and should expect to see the effect of the tune in the seat of your pants! My car rocks! Marv Tibbett

I'm starting to believe that either I didn't explain my self or no one read the whole thing and only choose bits and pieces of my experience; just because you didn't experience an issue, that doesn't means that I didn't. Things happens and like I said it's part my fault as customer for not following up when I didn't hear back from them. No need to guilt me for voicing my personal experience and has nothing to do with my coding level or my ability to program an ECU! It's great that it's working as it should for the Mass majority but that doesn't mean that it's working for me. Im just saying, chill out I'm not that important to smear your favorite tuner, I'm simply sharing my experience 😊

@SALES@OETUNING thanks for the respond, I will contact the number you provided and hopefully everything will go well.

@SALES@OETUNING thanks for the respond, I will contact the number you provided and hopefully everything will go well.
Hey man, no intention of digging at you or disrespect. Just sometimes, I read around and a lot of times it is installer error. Sometimes people go above their abilities and mess up and then blame the manufacturer(or tuner). You very well may have a legitimate issue and I'm sure OE will get you straight. I didnt mean to come off as rude or mean. I apologize. I hope your car did get sorted out though?

CLS550
Just putting in my 2 cents of the OE tuning on my 2014 CLS550 4matic.

I also got the end of year deal, $900 for the MyGenius device and support for files that is emailed after you email your original car ECU files. Shipped pretty quickly, I followed the direction, which could be better but I was able to install without any issue, there were some gaps that made me hesitate. After install is complete, right away I can tell the difference, it's almost like I'm driving a much different car. I'm experiencing a jump in performance, almost like when I went from a BMW 335xi to MB CLS550. I've only driven it a few times so time will tell but happy with my experience so far. I haven't seen any issues with engine failures or tranmission issues after OE Tuning install, but I'll be keeping an eye since it's quite a jump for merely using 93 octane gas. They also supplied map for 100 octane and valet usage. Not sure how useful valet map is since I'm not going to park my car, turning it on and off, overwriting my ECU file, before I had my keys to the valet, lol.
