Wheel size question.

I currently have the 19” ungraded wheel package on my car. I have cracked both front wheels on lovely NY roads. I also need 2 new rear tires. (bald) Since I am in the market for new wheels and tires, could I buy the standard staggered 18” wheels? I was thinking the extra 5mm of side wall on both could help with potholes. I don’t know if the speedometer was calibrated from the factory for 19’s and going smaller would throw it off or if there would be an issue with the calipers. Thanks, Scott

The diff in the speed calibration shouldn't be that drastic by demoting wheel size by 1 inch. Maybe 1 to 3mph on the freeway speeds. I went from 16s to 20s on my W211 and i got pulled over lol my dash showed 79-80mph, don't know exact, but wasn't above 80 nor was I below 78. Say 79mph. Cop linked me up at 84mph. I upped my wheel size by 4inches and had the diff of 4 to 5mph.
In your case, 1 inch diff, shouldn't be more than 1 to 3mph.
My speculations based on my experience.

And I'm hoping that you don't have the run flat tires? Previous owner had RFTs and the ride was harshhhh on 19s stock. Got myself Ferrada FR8 20s with reg tires...ride got much better.

If your overall diameter hasn't changed much (I believe within 3% difference), your speedometer should read accurately. Will depend on what profile size you get for the tires.

I'm in the same boat, but live in Colorado, and have the stock wheels on my 2013. As far as I can tell the wheel is the same style as https://mbworld.org/forums/market/769980

From what I understand on other threads about tires etc. they wheels are staggered. So the front wheels are 18" x 8.5" what size are the back wheels?

I need to find a replacement front, preferably stock, so I can use my existing tire and it matches. However, I'd consider buying a set of aftermarket wheels if I had a clue what I was looking for. Spacers???

Any help would be appreciated

The 550s should have same wheel width, regardless if they are 18 or 19 inches. Fronts are 8.5 wide and rear is 9.5 wide. Rear tire should be 285 wide.
Are you looking for new stock wheels for front?
And you can grab any aftermarket wheels and they should fit perfectly with the proper offset. I usually let the manufacturer/shop deal with the offset so everything sits flush. If they mess up the offset, it's their problem to fix. If you are running stock offset on aftermarket wheels and dropping the ride a little...then you will probably need spacers. I've never had to use spacers, so my knowledge on them is limited.

Since I bought the car from new I went back through the paperwork and found the original spec/feature list.

The wheels I have are part numbers and I went ahead and looked up the specs.

OW85232
2012-2014 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class (218 Type) (Note: CLS550)
Size: 18" x 8.5", 5 Lug, 112mm Bolt Pattern
Finish: Silver

OW85233
2012-2014 Mercedes CLS Class (218 Type) (Note: CLS550)
Size: 18" x 9.5", 5 Lug, 112mm Bolt Pattern
Finish: Silver
I did find a couple of the back wheels on ebay, but not a front wheel.

I did however find a set of OW85230B/OW85231B which are the same size and were the alternate wheel set the dealer tried to sell me, so I've ordered the set.

Did you order it through the dealer? Hopefully they didn't charge up the premium price haha.
Cuz my cousin went to dealer with a slightly bent wheel and the guy quoted her $1200. She was like there's no way im paying that much for 1 wheel. She said he went back and did something and said...the best he can do is $600. Woah!! lol If she had told me abt needing a new wheel...I found them online for $300. So do your research before you go to the dealer if its not covered under your warranty.

No I ended up ordering from a company in Canada, $1750 for the set inc. shipping, 2 back 18x9.5 + 2x front 18x8.5 come with a 30 day warranty.

Yeah thats why I didn't get those wheels when I bought the car, the dealer wanted $4,000. This way I can see the 3-good wheels on ebay or here, and recoup enough of the cost to cover the cost of new tires.

I had 20 inch Verde on mine and with the low profile tires, my rims are screwed as well from pot holes. I’m in Winnipeg Canada and am looking for 19’ to smooth the ride and hopefully save the semi-annual rim repairs. Do you have pics of the new rims? Also where did you end up getting them from? I have looked and found some nice rims, but most times when I look for fitment they don’t work. My local MB dealer wants 5000 just for rims, no thanks.
Cheers

I ended up buying this set for $1750 US from originalwheels.com who are in Ottawa. They were excellent given whats going on at the moment. They are used wheels, original AMG. I'm going to have them installed tomorrow.

Set of 4-wheels, 2-back, 2 front, $1750 inc. UPS ground shipping.

Also, am switching from blue to black center caps, valve covers, and hood badge, all from ebay, less than $40 for the lot.

Beautiful wheels, make sure your tire circumference is almost the same, front to back. Within 3% if you have 4Matic. Get a taller sidewall than the OE 19" you had. That will help you with the pothole problems you've seen. Marv
